The 3 hour walk through the forest has the following very positive features. Its undulating path, you can't get lost, gives you a bit of a vacation work-out. A troop of spider monkeys will go by, feeding on the way,. Toucans will fly by your head. Many other birds will pause, waiting to be identified. A pair of coatis will be surprised by your silent approach. You will see few other humans. Your patience and quiet will be rewarded.

If you are spending a few days in el remate (much more interesting nature wise than flores) take the time to do this 3 hour hike. The most important is to remain silent. I'm not a nature expert but I still manage to see 6 monkeys, 4 types of butterflies, 6 types of birds, numerous different trees

One afternoon in Remate we thought we would swing by Cerro Cahui to do some hiking based on some research we did. The hike started off good with seeing some interesting wildlife and hearing some howler monkeys getting louder and louder as we continued hiking. That's when things got interesting. I'm not sure if its because of the time of year we went, but after hiking about a mile in, the trail was so overgrown you could barely walk through. Add to that swarms of mosquitoes and we finally decided to turn back. Again, this could be a result of when we went (November) and not typical of the park, but it definitely deterred us from continuing further on our hike.

the place was quite well mapped but there were times when I was not sure if I was on the right track. I didn't see a single bird or animal, just the odd butterfly and the sound of a howler monkey in the distance.the best place was the toilets that I visited at the end of the walk because there were loads of little bats roosting in the thatch and i could get quite close to them.It may have been a nicer visit if the weather was cleare but the mosquitos were fierce

The trails are well maintained. It took me about 3 hours to hike the entire loop. I saw some monkeys and heard a wild pig. (?) I had the whole place to myself. There were some birds too, but I visited mid afternoon, which wasn't a great time for birding.

This is a great day hike, as it only takes about 2-3 hours for a loop hike. The trail is well maintained and not too populated. This was my first hike in the jungle. I went alone. After about an hour of walking, I hear what sounded like an aggressive tiger or something. My hear began racing and I turned around to walk back towards the entrance. The next day, I hired a guide and walked through the El Remate jungle. I learned a lot about the flora and fauna. Filin was a great guide. We encountered howler monkeys again, but this time I knew what animal was making the sound!

It was a good walk, lots of green and occasionally monkeys. It's not as jungly as Tikal but it makes for a nice day out.

The park attendant said there were monkeys at the top which we could hear but not see! Good for fitness bad for animals. there are more in Tikal

it was a beautiful walk in the jungle to a fantastic view of Lake Peten Itza. After coming down the trail and longing for the lake that i had just seen from the top of the hill....I jumped in off the little dock in front of the visitor center and had a fabulous cool down swim! it couldn't have been better! Later on after my shower i went walking and spotted a hot air balloon and went up for a sunset ride..perfection!

A lovely way to spend a couple of hours. Great views over Lake Peten Itza from the top. Would have hoped to have seen more birds / animals, but was a very lovely walk nonetheless through the reserve.

I had the chance to see howler monkeys, many species of birds and snakes. This is a beautiful reservation, and at the watchpoints you have incredible views of the lake. It is not crowded at all, very secluded. The guard at the entrance was very helpful and definitely knew the area very well. He was prompted on giving us tips to be safe and enjoy our hike, which got strenous after 2 or 3 miles. Worth it.

Great hike through jungle, forest and up to two lovely view points. We took the 3 hour route walk and it didn't see another tourist the whole time we were there. Lovely walk best to start early at opening time 7am to see the best wildlife and be prepared for some up hill hiking so take plenty of water. 40 Q per person to enter.

great trails through rainforest setting. very informative and helpful staff at entrance. We did the 6km trail as a morning run. lovely! great views!

This jungle hike was more than what we expected. The long uphill climb was intense. But once at the Mirador one realizes that the effort was worth it. We only had opportunity to see a pair of Howler monkeys, but they did not disappoint. The butterflies were the most beautiful I'd ever seen. Those 6 km made a lasting impression on us.

You see more when you walk in Tikal. I would not pay this hefty price for not much to see.
