湖滨的沙滩只要随手往下一挖，就有温泉水涌出，再配合引入湖水就可以自行调整温度。如果不想自己挖砂，旁边也有建好的足汤可以直接泡。在傍晚时分来到此可看着夕阳，景色不错！一旁还有露营区，喜欢露营的人可以在此看着湖景过夜。

We stopped there a few minutes. There are some bath for the feet, and you can also go to the lake. Some tourist shops and that's it. Nothing incredible but if you pass there.

A novelty stop to try this unusual experience. Hot sand beach amidst cold lake water. Though we only spent less than a hour here, it was good fun...and a rejuvenating for the feet. Recommend this pit-stop to anyone passing by the west of Lake Kussharo.

The lake is cold while the sand is hot which is just next to it. Just put your feet into the sand and you can just feel the heat. You need to try various spots as the tempreture is different. Great experience. MUST TRY!!!

If you are in the area, you really have to stop here and soak your feet. It's free and you can either stand in the little pools dug out in the lake shore, or just dig your feet into the gravel. The hot water is just below the ground level, and you can enjoy pure hot water outside the Lake, or you can walk in the Lake and dig your feet down a little and feel the hot water come up and mix with the cold lake water. Very fun!

This is actually an onsen on the banks of Lake Kussharo. Not to be missed. Simple, but awesome. What fun this was, and novel – first ever such experience. We didn't know how it worked and went to the nearby shop to look for spades – as it turns out, all you need to do is plonk yourself down on the little wooden plank benches overlooking the lake, and dig your feet into the black sand. A few centimetres down, your feet will hit volcanic heat pretty quickly! Combined with the cold lapping waves, cool sand above and warm volanic sand below, it was a great way to exfoliate your feet – better than any spa I've been to! Just swishing your feet around gives you are great foot massage – it felt amazing. We arrived just before sunset, and got treated to a great view of the sun setting over the mountains, with gorgeous rays cutting through the clouds. The crisp lake breeze, and cold air contrasted sharply with the warmth into your feet – what fun. Not to be missed! After you're done, head to the foot bath nearby to wash the sand off. Tip: Don't forget to bring a small towel to wpie your feet dry, or else flip-flops!

屈斜路湖は凍結しない湖なはずなのに、行った日は暴風雪警報がでるほどの悪天候でした。なんと凍結した屈斜路湖は初めて見ました。ガイドさんも珍しいと言っていました。たくさんのハクチョウが寒そうに肩を寄せ合っていました。ある意味、北海道らしい光景ではありました。

冬には白鳥が飛来するという屈斜路湖の砂湯。大人しい白鳥がすぐそばまで寄ってきます。またレストハウスではおいしいクッシーラーメンがあります。

近くに寄っても、白鳥は驚かず、逃げないことにかえって驚きました。ガイドさんから、鳥インフルエンザのため、白鳥に餌を与えないでくださいと言われたので誰も与えていません。本来なら白鳥を見た感激が強いところですが、鶴居村で丹頂鶴をまじまで見たインパクトが余りにも強烈過ぎてピンボケしてしましました。砂湯にある温泉足湯が大変気持ちよかった。

温泉で熱くなった砂を誰かに（裸、或いは水着や浴衣などを着た）体にかけてもらうイメージでいたのですが、実際には自分で湖畔の砂場の砂を掘っていくとお湯がでてくるというもの。２０～３０ｃｍは掘らないとお湯がでてきませんし、着ているものを脱いで、体全体を浸すという感じでもありません。すぐ近くに、足湯があるので、そちらの方が手軽で実用的です。小さい子供は砂湯も喜ぶかもしれませんが・・・。いずれにせよ、タオル持参をお勧めします。

各所を観光しながらレンタカーを飛ばして、ようやく夕方着いたのですが、その時分になると風が吹くらしく、穏やかだった日中の陽気が一変、湖岸は吹きさらし状態。雲も出てきて、薄着だったのでちょっと寒い思いをしました。砂湯に入れば、天国ですが、風と沈みゆく太陽と減りゆく人にイマイチ気分が出ず。ここは早めの時間に訪問するのが吉と思った次第。

湖畔の砂場で足でぐりぐり穴を掘っていくと、段々あったかいお湯が出てきます。砂がいいマッサージにもなります。すぐそばに足湯や飲泉もあります。景色もよく、おすすめです。

子供の頃から大好きなスポットなので、総合評価の「とても良い」は思いっきり主観的な評価です。湖ぎわの砂を30cmほど掘ればお湯が出てくる。ただそれだけなのですが、屈斜路湖近辺に行くときは必ず立ち寄り、必ず砂を掘ります。お湯が出るまで無心で砂を掘り、出た〜！ 温か〜い!!この一連がとにかく楽しい。お湯の温度は季節によって高低があるような…。５月頃はそれほど熱いと思いませんでしたが、９月初旬はかなり熱かったです。湖畔には足湯もあるので、湖を眺めながらのんびりするのもいいかもしれません。また、お土産物店の店内には飲泉所もあります。

屈斜路湖の湖畔には砂湯や足湯もあったりします。砂を掘るとすぐにお湯が出ますし、整備された足湯に浸かることもできます。どちらも無料です。足湯に浸かりながら湖を見られるというのは他ではなかなか体験できないので楽しかったです。

7月の平日に行きました。カヌーツアーまでの時間つぶしで行ってみたのですが、適度なにぎわいであまり観光化されていなく、ゆったり気分でした。砂を掘ると湧き出るお湯はかなり熱く、湖の水と適度に混ぜて浸かるのがベスト。あと、掘らなくても砂に手足を埋めるだけでもぽかぽかで冷え性にはとてもいいと思います。近くにあるお土産屋さんに飲める温泉があって、そこでできたてのじゃがいも団子と温泉をいただくのがおいしいです。
