This place was quite big. The huge hornbill statue facing the sea was eye-catching from a distance. We visited just for the purpose of having some food for lunch there as we were staying at the hotel nearby. There were quite a number of foodstalls, mostly selling Malay food.We loved the 'ayam penyet'. The roti canai/murtabak stall was having good business when we were there. Two drinks stalls were also available, offering quite a variety of different local tastes.Overall, it's a good place where one can experience something different from what the hotel restaurants offer.

This is the latest beach place in Kuching to hang out. Good place for sunset hunters, and just enjoy the beach with your friends and family. Just opposite the Sarawak Cultural Village. Accessible mainly by taxis and tour buses.

We stopped here as it is opposite the Sarawak Cultural Village. There is a small food kiosk that serves a variety of dishes at reasonable prices that are quite tasty. The hornbill statue overlooking the beach is worth a photo but that about all it has going for it.

If your'e trying to figure out how to kill a little bit of time in Kuching... I'd keep looking. This is just a slightly weird little shopping centre overlooking a fairly terrible beach. It WAS monsoon when we went there, but the water was chocolate brown and we couldn't through 5 cm of water (we DID swim, but felt dirty)! There's an OK bar overlooking the beach (Escobar), but it's not worth the trip out just for the bar. We did manage to make it there for Sunday karaoke, where we highly enjoyed the absolutely worst singing that we've ever heard in public, but unless you could be sure that lady would be there again to serenade you, I wouldn't bother hanging around to see Damai Central.

If the space was utilised properly with all the right activities, the place has potential to be a crowd-puller on its own. When I went over from Permai for New Years Eve (since Permai didnt seem to host any NY Eve activities) to the one and only bar (Escobar?) there, seems to be a lot of missed opportunities. The circular shaped area with a field in the middle had no activities held to usher in the New Year, which can be a tourist draw (sadly nothing going on). Meanwhile the one and only bar seem to host a half-hearted attempt at a New Year's Eve "event", which wasnt much really. There was a strange open-air karaoke thing going on at the food court area, with bursts of bad singing floating over to the Escobar side.

Good place to find cheap food. Don't go to ESCOBAR if packed with people as the management don't have a good system

Love the evening ambient and for sunset view, yet weekend can be loaded with big crowds! You may always plan your trip to Sarawak Cultural Village before heading here as both are located within the same vicinity.

Sigh.First of all, the ATM - only one in the area - doesn't accept MasterCard. Nice! The second closest is in Kuching. And 7/11 doesn't take card payment either. Won't they lose a lot of customers this way?A terrible and noisy place with an amusement park feel to it - not in a good way, as it actually offers nothing for a grown-up.

there are food court, souvenir shops, 24-hour convenience shop, backpackers hostel, restaurant and bar. The food court serves freshly cooked local cuisine and western food with reasonable price but closed at 10p.m.. There are Hornbill monument near the beach. Location in front of Sarawak Cultural Village.

Having nasi lalapan ayam with milo jagung - nice combo. The lalapan ayam was nice and the price is affordable too. Having our late lunch here after whole day inside the cultural village.

We were staying near by and had lunch here twice, once at the food court and the next time at the bar over looking the beach. There is a couple shops, tour booking shop and a 7-11 that was not to well stocked when we were there, no beer available. Good for a break from the hotel food and the shops are ok to stock up on supplies.

Plenty of choice, not pricey, great when you have hungry kids! But be warned: it closes early, they're already putting the shutters down at 8pm!

We stayed at Damai Beach Resort and Damai Central is an easy few minutes stroll from the resort. The food at the resort was quite disappointing and Damai Central more than made up for it.There are a few shops there, including a 7 eleven.Escobar restaurant is very nice, perched above the beach with nice views with the beach and the sea. We had some nice meals there. The food court at Damai Central is great, with good, cheap and quite varied food. We ate there several times, we even took food to eat in our room.

Food court was a relief after the stuffiness of the adjacent Damai beach resort where we stayed. 7-Eleven typically pricey and not well stocked. We were in a tropical area yet they stocked no mosquito repellent or insect bite cream... duh.Couple of gift shops, of course same stuff much much cheaper at the markets and in town.
