Bett was very knowledgeable and interesting to talk to. Her tea was proper tea not tea bags and served in proper tea cups. Her dog was also gorgeous.

There really isn't much to quaint Tintalbra, a pub, a bridge over the Murray and a small store.Blink and you would miss it for sure. But you would be missing a magical trip back into a forgotten history of Australia which this tiny town has an undisputed link. This town is the home of Jack Riley who met Banjo Patterson and and gave the story of the iconic poem The Man From Snowy River. The heritage store is officially 150 years old as of 2014 and Betty Walton is its proud curator. Set up as a cafe for passing trade Betty has created a shrine of key memories of Tintaldra and its people.Betty Walton is larger than life and in her gentle years Betty is still as sharp as a tack, writing and reciting her own Bush Poetry about the rape of our land by senseless whites and others about by gone eras. I had the privilege of being regaled with a recital over lunch. Worth the price of the pie.Out back is a preserved bake house and a panoramic scene to capture the Murray landscape.Betty also runs a B and B next door and can arrange fishing packages for enthusiasts being set on the Murray as she is at the border.Check out her web site for more specifics at www.tintaldrastore.com.auI stopped for an hour but journeyed over 150 years back in time.Tintaldra may be on the road to Bright or Albury or Tumut or Tumbarumba but you should do your best to lose yourself at Betty's store.I know Betty came in 1976 and has never left. Let her introduce you to the magic of this Murray Town.
