Very beautiful restored building. Guides are very professional and tickets are cheap, really cheap. It takes one hour but every minute was fun and you learned a lot of extras.

The Night in Vienna performance by the Philharmonic on the 26th was wonderful, uplifting and a respite from the warm summer day. All seats were only 150 Uruguayan Pesos and the performance was completely sold out. The whole experience transported you to a different era. Just lovely! The theatre accept Visa credit card as well. Lovely gifts shop and cafe as well.

With just 1 short day in Montevideo (from our cruise) we were disappointed to learn from the Teatro Staff that they only accept Uruguay Pesos for payment of the entrance/tour fee. A big "NO" to US $, credit cards and other foreign currencies! They told us where to change our US$ and to come back. With time constraints and need to see more tourist attractions of the city, we opted to just take pictures of the building. Perhaps we could come back and join their tour when we do land tours of South America instead of via cruises. Tip: Be sure you have Uruguay Pesos when visiting this Teatro. They do not accept any other types of payments.

Yes, it is impressive. Extremely beautiful also. The guided tour is very cheap and guides were very attentive. Recommended.

The visit was enhanced by the performance of 3 actor-singers who popped up in the main entrance the theater and in the modern theater. I loved our guides and the anecdotes . It is a contrast to the theater in Buenos Aires which is more regal

August is their winter and on Friday afternoons there is a tango milonga in the large conference room. A wonderful experience, young and old dancers. Great music. Saturday afternoon they do it all over again on the terrace outside. There are two restaurants one is a café and other fine dinning. They looked good.

This is one of the most beautiful buildings that i've seen in Montevideo. It's located after the Plaza Independencia that is what devides the old town from the center of the city. When you arrive there you can see on the front door the right time to the visits with guides (of course you can walk around the theatre without any guide). They have visits guided in spanish, english, portuguese and much more languages, visits in spanish costs only 20 pesos, in other languages 50 pesos. During the visit you walk around the theatre and the guide goes explaning the whole story of the building and the city that grew around the theatre. Sundenly some actors start interpratating some songs and a small play, it makes the visit much more better, it's not just a boring guide talking to you... is somenoe explaning the history and interaction at the same time.... an fantastic visit... it takes kinda an hour.... but you will love it for sure, good, cheap and important.

This place is stunning!! I was fortunate enough to be in montevideo when there was an opera here. Wow it was stunning, the acoustics were impressive as well as the striking architecture all added to a beautiful evening with the wife. Also I did the tour and it's well worth it.

We lucked out with the english speaking tour as it was much smaller than the 2 being run in Spanish. So much so that some bilingual tourists audibled over to our group for a more intimate tour. Either way, this place has some nice history, the tour was short and sweet and while not as glamorous as the one in Buenos Aires, it's still quite nice and a must see.

We booked for an orchestral concert at the last minute. Few seats were left but we were fortunate in finding better seats where the audience members hadn't turned up.Recommend anyone to try and see something here and enjoy the atmosphere.
