When you walk into the graveyard you'll immediately notice the iron gates of the tombs copied in the Sound of Music. It's interesting how in the movie they make it look like this cemetery is in Nonnburg Abbey when its actually quite a distance from there. The graveyard is peaceful and if you've never seen Austrian headstones - they are interesting and pretty for a different cultural experience. The interior of the church is quite beautiful with white walls and gold finishing. I loved the side alters that went all the way down to the main alter in marble. The ceiling was very beautiful with the painting and surrounding white. Some of the paintings were very dark in contrast to the white church and there were a few tombs to the sides of the church.Overall I definitely recommend it. St. Peter's is historic and the SOM connection is always a plus.

We've visited many churches, baroque ones. But this one had a special grandeur, with mighty and massive furnishings. The entrance is from centuries past. One feels the history and sees the centuries of architecture before one's eyes. I thought catacombs were under ground, but in this case, one walks up and appreciates the immense effort of crafting places of worship from the massive mountain. Taking in the details of the memorials in the cemetary was very interesting. Many beautiful markers. All in all, an inspiring visit.

If you've seen the movie Sound of Music, you'll recognize the graveyard where they hid at the end of the movie. On our visit, we were able to walk around the seemingly spooky but interesting graveyard.

impressive how it was possible at the time of the building of this church to create such beauty as the total city is. Very much in need of spending time in it, more that 2 days for sure. There are lovely inexpensive hotels and guesthouses in Ruhpolding, just 30 min drive to down town

While walking about the old city we ventured into this building to find the normal magnificent interior. Certainly worth the visit but include it in a stroll around the old town

Quick easy visit. walking behind and around the church is nice to see all the artwork/paintings and figurines.

Check out the restaurant at Stift St Peter . Sort of the greatest hits of Mozart done by a female and male classically trained opera singer with a quartet. Order the desert "nockerl". An austrain classic dessert often overshadowed by the Sacher Torte (also yummy).

We visited many churches in Europe and this was the most spectacular interior of them all. First seeing the frescos contrasting the pure white ceiling with the light blue scrollwork running the full length of this majestic sanctuary is something I will never forget. It is so beautiful that it doesn't seem like it can be real. As far as a tourist visiting a church, there obviously isn't a lot to do, but to come to Salzburg and not see this - I don't know if that really even counts as coming to Salzburg. The cemetery is also interesting, and just steps away, the catacombs are not very extensive, but as part of this visit I was happy to pay the 1 Euro fee to enter the catacombs.

Really ornate tombstones, very old graves and some freshly dug ones! Lots of flowers and plants. Well worth a visit. We also visited the catacombs which are very plain inside but a significant feat to build out on what were essentially caves high up on the rock cliff face. Beautiful church.

This place does an evening with a meal and a small group of singers and musicians playing and singing Mozart. The tables are all for 8 so if you are a couple or small group you will be sharing with strangers. Some couples did seem to be on a separate table but you obviously would need to ask for this and perhaps pay more? The food was reasonable. Drinks are extra and they do keep trying to sell more so pace yourself with the wine. The musicians and singers were great and there was a really nice atmosphere. There is a programme for sale for 2 euros, good value if you want to follow the words for the concert. If you want to take the menu you have to pay 2euros which seems a bit steep after what one has paid for the meal. We were a party of 4 so with two other couples on our table. We enjoyed chatting to them. We were seated fairlynear the front which was good. We arrived at just before 7 for 7.30 and there were already people seated. Not sure whether our places had been allocated in advance or whether we had better seats because we arrived early. No choice on the menu so mass catering but still reasonable food. A very enjoyable evening if you like opera.

The abbey, graveyard, and catacombs are worth visiting. Doesn't take too long to see. It must have been a challenge to carve out the catacombs.

Historically, worth seeing and visiting. The cemetery located next to the Abbey, is of particular interest for its catacombs and for the important people buried in it, like Mozart's sister and general Collins. The restaurant, which you'll find before the cemetery main entrance, has a romantic and relaxing foyer.

We walked through the garden and graveyard before having lunch. It was beautiful and spooky at the same time. The sky was overcast so that helped the set the mood. It is a very interesting olace.
