Even if you have just 1 or 2 hours, go for this. The bahn-ride might not be "so great" but it is unique. For people in science, you would be amazed by the engineering of this train. How can one change the inclination to such steep angles..!totally worth it.

Went here with a group of friends. Great place to sit, talk, have a beer, and enjoy the view. Wonderful way to get an idea of what the area looks like, all the way to the border of France.

The weather wasn't good but it was totally worth it due to the heavy fog. It gave a very sinister atmosphere and I was able to take amazing photos. The paragliding ramp is also very cool. The view of the cities from there is amazing. There is a restaurant with ok food. The Bienenstich cake was very good. The cable car is also very cool. The railway is very steep and you can have great views. If you have children it is also a good place as there is a nice playground for kids. You can get a lift to the top of the tower and have a 360o view from the windows. But to go to the very top you will have to climb a few more steps which is ok but keep it in mind if you have someone with limit mobility. I think it's a must if you are in Baden-Baden.

The view from the top, over the woods and hills of southern Germany is well worth the ride. There is a café with its own wonderful view

Really steep funicular railway to top of mountain. Cafe/restaurant at top. Lovely views and walks. Signposting of routes a little vague though. Children's playground and sun loungers available. Fenced area with wildlife including deer and wild boar. Paragliding site too!

Took the cable car up the mountain just after it opened. Great views from the top. They have a restaurant at the top you can order lunch or beverages. Go early.

The Merkur cable car is a reasonable self service ride up the mountain. Seems to open at 10am. Drop your coins to get a one way or better a round trip ticket. Place ticket arrow side forward into the machine to get through the turnstile and walk up to get into the cable car. Push button "Abfahrt" to get moving although the car seems to go on its own to stay synchronized with the approaching car. NOT wheelchair friendly as there are steps to get up and down and I didn't see any ramps or lifts (but check website to verify). A lady with baby stroller was having difficulty getting up and down the narrow and steep steps.

not in peak season you could be there alone and funiculer will work for 2 of you - fantastic issue. do not forget to get your picknic with you - restaurant is closed not in season

you may buy the ticket already on the offical bus line. You don't have to wait, you use the cable car as a elevator.

Walked to the station from Baden Baden which was lovely. 4 Euros for a return trip. Great fun and a fabulous café at the top. We were lucky with the views. A thoroughly enjoyable few hours.

We went there when the mist was surrounding this place. Took the funicular up the mountain and soaked ourselves in the mist. Really surreal.... after a walk in the mist, we decided to eat in the restaurant, and it was splendid! We really enjoyed the food and the service. The family who run the restaurant are funny and friendly. We had a very memorable day here...

Its the Funicular Train that takes you up the Mount Merkur, its pretty cheap of just 2 Euro per person one way, and has a good frequency too!! We went up by the rail and returned by treking down, Its just 4 kms and a beautiful scenery way down!!

We talk the Merkurbahn up one way. Once at the top, although it was a very cloudy day, we still managed to see some views but on a clear day, it must be spectacular. We then talk a walk down through the Black Forest, extending the walk slightly from the trail walk given. It was a beautiful forest walk and really worth the effort if you are able, rather than just get the Merkurbahn back down again. The Merkurbahn is also cheap to ride.

Absolutely beautiful at the top. Parking at the bottom if you have a car if not i think the road train takes you there also. Only 4 euros to go to the top and back down. The views are spectacular. Managed to spend a couple of hours here very easily. Would definitely visit again.

We walked from the centre of Baden Baden to the funicular. This took us through a residential area (some very upmarket properties) and up some very steep streets. It was a pleasant walk but it would have been far easier, and less energetic to catch the bus to the funicular. The funicular is cheap and speedy. The views from the top are gorgeous and you can see for miles on a clear day. Well worth a visit.
