We did the short walk up here from the carpark, an interesting old ruin, free entry, you can walk up on the ramparts and in several different parts and levels. Worth walking up to the top for the great views over Baden-Baden and into the distance to the Rhine River. OK for kids but could be difficult for people with mobility issues (there is a cafe at the entrance so maybe they could wait there).

This was a great find on our trip in Germany! It is reached after a 15 min drive from Baden baden on a very steep road in the woods. There is plenty of parking space on top so you don't have to walk too much to get there. We found it very fun to discover the different paths, corridors & stairs in this well maintained ruin. The 360 degrees view from the top is simply stunning and rewarding! There is also a restaurant in the ruin for when you're really hungry.

It is really nice place. Many point of view and quite easy forest trail. Free parking place is near there.

This gem of an attraction is just a short drive from Baden Baden, and is well worth visiting! The castle ruins are free to explore, and parking is also free there are many areas of the castle still in tact for exploring, while noting what is missing/destroyed adds to the fun. A must do while in Baden Baden. There is also a nature preserve adjacent to this that is open for hiking.

Took two kids aged 9&10 to see this - after paying so much to visit ruins in UK, we were surprised to find entry was free, and had to make a detour, but we weren't disappointed. We all enjoyed exploring these massive ruins, climbing the beautiful staircases, the walls covered in ivy, the countless viewpoints (with tables and chairs for a picnic if you like) and in case you didn't exhaust your kids at that, there are lovely hiking paths through the forest and up the hill nearby, with great lookout points there as well. This remains a favourite castle ruin from our 10 week trip through Europe. Well worth a run up the Autobahn, or enjoy a scenic drive through the Black Forest up the B500 to Baden-Baden. We loved it!

If you wear comfortable hiking shoes and love old ruins, this place is for you. The view from the various terraces is worth climbing the numerous steps. Don't stop at the first terrace, go up a bit to enjoy another angle. There are chairs here and there if you just want to stop for a while to rest while admiring the view or just to enjoy the sun.Don't miss the wind harp, a modern reproduction, and ... just hope it's windy enough to hear it! It wasn't so on our visit, so I'd like to go back to experience this.Parking is said to be big, but on a nice day like last Saturday it was over-full with extra cars parked where they shouldn't be (can accommodate about 50 cars I would say). We went back down the road and found a niche where 5 ot 6 cars could park. From there it's only a 5 to 10 minute walk up.And yes, as was said in the other reviews, it's free!I definitely enjoyed the castle more than the town where we felt out of place as money seems to be oozing from every stone of the downtown area ... the advertisements in some stores are even in russian and in arab - that tells you what type the rich clientele is! I didn't bother to windowshop when I noticed that a simple Döner was almost 10 euros ...

We visited the funicular railway which looked across to the castle. So as we had time we drive across to see it. It did take a bit if finding but was well worth the visit. The sat nav came in handy. Shame the wind was in the wrong direction as the wind harp was quiet. Lots of stairs to climb for equally spectacular views to the funicular railway. Shame it was hazy.

The castle is not far from the centre of town and is definitely worth a visit if the weather is good. Car Parking is limited at the top so be prepared for a small walk if necessary. No charge to get in and very impressive castle.

Large and partially preserved medieval castle. We arrived by car with the road being narrow a bit winding. Entrance was free (at least when we arrived) and you could explore most of it and climb (the steep and many) stairs all the way to the tall watch-tower, with excellent view over the Rhine valley and the city of Baden-Baden. Please note that outdoor stairs were a bit slippery after rain and that the climb may not suit very young children, people with very low stamina or people with severe fear of heights.

This funicular is at the end of a residential bus line, and offers the rider a great view of much of the surrounding countryside.

My friends and I decided to hike to the Alte Schloss from next to the festspielhaus and ended up on a roadside for the first 15 minutes. After completing the round journey I noticed an actual trail that started from the town center. Lesson learned.Arriving at the ruins I was in awe, the entire complex was about 6 stories high with many in tact staircases and rooms that were very well maintained for being open to the elements. The views from every angle overlooking Baden-Baden, the mountains and the black Forrest were spectacular! I highly recommend visiting, whether you take the short taxi ride or hike the hill.

This ancient castle is wonderfully enchanting. It is very big and you can explore from the bottom all the way to the top... take the stairs, or climb the walls a bit to get an exciting view. It really is amazing.

We had the most wonderful time in the ruins of old castle. The view is beautiful on top of the ruins. There is a wind harp that was installed in one part of the wall of the castle that will make eerie sound when the wind gushes through the castle.. Great place to take good pictures and fantastic place to sit down and let the world go by for a while..

Was pleasantly surprised that how amazing this place is. Easy to find and plenty parking space and is free. The view is fantastic, lots sitting arrangement in every spot should you need to sit down for a rest.

We went to Baden-Baden for some sightseeing and ended up going up to the Alt Schloß and wow what an experience. We went with two small kids and they enjoyed running around the ruins and taking pictures. The view from the very top is breathtaking! A MUST if you are in the Area!
