This is a very nice zoo but I think it is the botanical garden that makes it so special. Even during a late winter visit there is so much too see, and at this time of year, there aren't any crowds. The animals seemed happier than those at some zoos I've visited. By far my favorite part though was the arboretums and tropical green houses. The steamy temperatures, lush foliage and blooming flowers were the boost of spring that I needed.

This is a great day out for all types of travellers. So many animals and such beautiful gardens, it's definitely worth a visit! If you're just with adults, I'd allow at least 3 hours to see it all comfortably (with kids probably longer- there's so much stuff for them to do!). There's a petting zoo, a butterfly house, an aquarium, heaps of playgrounds and interactive exhibits. I'd recommend bringing your own food, the lines get pretty long around lunch! If you're up for the walk and/or want to save money, take a stroll through the Schlossgarten from the Hauptbahnhof to get to Wilhelma- it only takes about 30-45 minutes and it's gorgeous. I went in March, and most of the exhibits were open, but in summer I can imagine it would be even better!

A MUST when visiting Stuttgart or southern Germany! From the giant Orangutan, Mountain Guerrillas, and other primates to the aquatic Seals, Sea Lions, Sharks and general Aquarium, to the plains game, reptiles, and arachnid exhibits...you need ALL DAY to explore the meticulously kept grounds and botanical gardens. BRING WATER as it is hard to come by, and I suggest climbing your way to the top of the grounds and then winding your way down to the bottom...you will cover MILES of pathway and will have something delightful to see at every turn. Enjoy!!

This is a lovely place! So peaceful and easy to wander between plants, animals and the aquarium. Because of the way the zoo and greenhouses are laid out it is a great visit even on a cold rainy day. Flowers, flowers, could not stop taking pictures of these well maintained beauties! The animals seem well cared for and are in nice habitats.

This is a great value day out for families and couples alike. It's a big zoo with lots to see. The grounds are beautiful and the architecture very pretty. Would definitely recommend!

This is one place you must visit while being in Stuttgart. Situated in a large area close the the Neckar River, you´ll find great botanical and zoological diversity here! The aquarium is spectacular, such are the old buildings that are from the late 19 hundreds. A beautiful place just to stroll around while checking out many animals.

Get up close and personal. The animals and other exhibits are much more accessible than USA zoos. I always get worn out before I see averything. I have been there several times. Love it in Spring and Fall.

I visited here with my sister. We also booked us an animal visit with the two hippos Rosie and Mike. What a great experience and the fee was very agreeable since the day pass of the zoo and botanical garden is included with the animal visit. The Caretaker took the time to explain us facts about the animals.we also could feed them, touch them and of course fotograph them.

Our visit was end of August 2014, it's a wonderful place to spend a day. excellent arrangement with both Botanic garden and a Zoo at the same palace, something for everyone. Public Tram stops right in front of the entrance.

Went here on the 13th of February on our second day in Stuttgart. This is absolutely amazing and well worth the visit. Although still in transition from winter to spring it was still beautiful to see. Just big enough to be easy to walk round and plenty for everyone to see. Every aspect of it is well laid out and makes it interesting to see all the way through. Very easy to get to from the city centre by public transport. Also plenty of parking for those driving. I would say that you should leave a few hours to see everything. We were there for 2 and a half hours and didn't get to see everything we wanted to see as we had a train to catch. It's well worth the time to spend.

Located in the city, driving and finding parking is a pain but it's worth the zoo. From the botanical gardens, to the reptile house and aquariums; it's all great. The primate house is also very interesting but I do feel very sympathetic towards the animals. I know that they will never experience the feel of their natural habitat but a small price to pay for awareness to the human population that conserving our resources and natural habitats for other species is the only way to coexist with life on earth. End Rant Still an amazing zoo

I was curious to see this place ever since I saw some pictures taken by a colleague there, and finally got to visit it on a cold Sunday mid-morning. And although it was super cold that day (compensated by a lower entrance fee - 10 Euro - for winters), I am still glad that I spent my time there (thanks to the greenhouses, didn't have to spend a lot of time in the open). Originally the private gardens of the king Wilhelm I, the place now is home to several species of animals and plants and sees more than 2 million visitors every year.My colleague showed me the primates section which was quite interesting (stinks though). It also has a kindergarten for the orphaned/abandoned gorilla babies who are then reared by zoo keepers but kept close to the gorilla families in the zoo, to help them learn their "gorilla traits" :-). The mountain goats, zebras, giraffes, rhinos, hippos, snakes, bears, birds, butterflies .... are other inhabitants of the zoo and equally engaging. The other nice thing that I liked were the green houses with orchids, camellias, miniature amazonian rain-forest and so on. I'd love to go again in another season if I get the chance - as my colleague has told me that the place looks different in each season and that has sparked my curiosity!

We visited here on a whim and were so pleased we did - the zoo is just the right size for exploring in a few hours, with plenty to see, and the gardens are beautiful. As all the shops in Stuttgart close on a Sunday, it is worth timing your visit here to then as I am fairly sure the zoo and gardens are open.
