It is a kind of museum but also a place where you are allowed to stay and swim. We were there at the perfect moment: it was very hot, we needed a swim and there were both shadow and sunny places to be.

interesting site. Learned a lot of Norwegian history. It was a pity there was no English guide. Good Kaffee with great local dishes.

Me and my friend was there last summer. And the movies they sent were simply breathtaking. It's hard to take in how Norway was back in the olden days, but this place really takes you back. And you absolutely have to try out the møsbrømlefs. A North Norwegian traditional lefs.

We visited with Norwegian friends and feared that language would prove a problem. We need not have worried, the staff, in common with most Norwegians speak English. There is a leaflet in English and a version of the explanatory film is also shown in English. Best of all we are given a guided tour round the main house also in English by a lady dressed traditionally who was able to answer all our questions. There are other buildings to visit containing historic artefacts and the shop is a must. As other reviewers have said the location is fantastic and the restoration of all the original buildings has been exceptionally well done. The cafe has a good choice of food and drink on offer. In UK terms the entry fee is about £10 - £12 (at June 2014 exchange rates).

The trading post is an open air museum in a spectacular bay on an island you can reach within 30 minutes from Bodo. We sat with a picnic of arctic shrimps on the pier over the small fjord. The views are absolutely amazing and one of the nicest in Norway. I can wholeheartedly recommend the trip out.

It is a tiny village you can reach from Bodo in less than one hour including a short link with ferry. There you can find a small ensemble of traditional houses on the fjord, a small church and a lot of magic. Fantastic.

Yes, visitn at least once a year, often summertime. The grounds are beautiful even in wintertime, but the museum is closed or has limited access. Kjerringøy is a beautiful place, the scenery is marvellous, and the museum is very well presented and worth a visit to know more about northern norway coast cultural life. There is a beach also, perfect for picnic or a swim if you like. I absolutely recommend a visit here!

Beautiful little fishing village. Stunning views on the drive from Bodø including an interesting ferry ride. Friendly people.

This is probably the most beautiful place I ever have been to. We did our visit early in June; almost no people and extremely pleasant weather (that means a lot). Very service minded staff has a lot of information to tell about this place. Don't forget to enter the old shop at the beach.Coast life around the Mediterranean is nothing compared to this white beaches and the crystal clear green water. Except bathing of course :)

You should plan the visit in the summer months, Jun - Aug. I prefer July in northern Norway, that is when the weather is usually the best there. This place will show you a bit of the Norwegian history from this part of the country. Also interesting for my kids that suddenly was interested in how things were in the old days. You should take a guided tour of the area. They have excelent stories.

As opposed to the other reviewers, I loved this place. I rented a bike for the day and rode around the countryside, taking photographs and talking to people. If you take an interest in their lives, they open up and you learn about how some other people live. The harbour was interesting and aesthetic. One of the staff explained the history to me as it was not tourist season. I wandered around on my own, taking my time and absorbing the atmosphere. There is a small general store with a quaint restaurant. You can stay overnight at the very lovely hotel. You can see some of my photos here: http://www.squidoo.com/the-good-the-less-good-and-the-beautiful-about-norway
