Chateau Sainte-Roseline Winery is a magnificent wine estate covering 500 acres that dates back to the 10th century when it was a hermitage. The estate's history is an interesting tale that includes the legend of St. Roseline in the 14th century. St. Roselines' remains can be seen in the glass coffin located in the chapel next to the wine castle, along with a variety of 20th century artwork. After a tour of the property and chapel, our visit concluded with a tour of the winery and a wine tasting. The wine was delicious and was available for purchase after the tasting. This was an interesting and enjoyable tour.

A great place to visit in combination with tasting and buying wine at the winery! Highlights: the wall mosaic made by Marc Chagall and, of course, St. Roseline herself.

Last year we visited this chapel, and the Chagall mosaic was covered up for restoration, so all we saw was the lovely Chapel and the curiosity of a dried up Saint Roseline. We regularly stay in the area, so came back this year and it was well worth the visit. The Chagall mosaic is vibrant and delightful, and the chapel makes a perfect setting. A visit to St Roseline Chapel may only take half an hour, but if you are nearby I would recommend dropping in. Never tried the winery, we are fans of St Pons Winery nearby south of Figaniere.

Went to buy some wine and view the grounds. Has a nice chapel and gounds with interesting art works including a Chagall Mosiac. Also mummified remains of Saint Roseine. Site of an ancient monastery (11th century). Single lane road to and from the winery - need to be careful on it.

The Chapelle is part of a wine-making complex that makes an interesting visit. To start, you can go into the tasting cellar and experience the wide range of red, rose, white and sparkling wines that the chateau ste. roseline produces, all of which are very acceptable and slide down rather too easily. The staff are welcoming and willing to advise as to which wine you really like, even if you don't quite realize it. Afterwards, you can purge your guilt by moving to the chapel to view the preserved remains of Saint Roseline, who has been lovingly retained since the early 1300s. Indeed, it's good to know that she was refurbished by Italian experts in the late 19th century so that she can be as well-kept as she is in her crystal case. I hope that I look as well when I am 700! Apart from the saint (whose eyes are preserved in a separate reliquary) the chapel also features some very nice painted altars and is an excellent example of the kind of private church that the nobility built for their own use in an era when no self-respecting estate could do without a church. Kids might not like the chapel (some will be fascinated by the saint) but the vineyard and the chapel are worth a couple of hours of your time.

A voir absolument

Vacker Chagallmosaik i liten medeltida kyrka. Även mumifierat helgon i glaskista från 1600-talet. Lite speciellt, men fascinerande!
