Last night since the nights are getting longer on my way home to Belfast I thought in all my 31 years passing this place on day trips to Newcastle I had never visited the castle, with a recent documentary I recently watched about the castle and how the rabbits got to Murlough bay I though hey Ill stop off and take in some of the history, it was just starting to get dark but I was able to walk around they pretty well preserved castle remains and take in the views of the sun set over the mournes. I look forward to taking a walk around it in the summer months.

Great views over the bay. Got some great photo shots as the weather was perfect. Will visit again. Ideal place to take wedding photos too.

Worth a clamber as one can clearly see what a good defensive spot this is, and also the ins and outs of the coast. Invaders would have been spotted easily.

A surprise - visited on the off chance and rewarded with a reasonably complete castle and wall plus gerat views along the coast - and it was free

First time back in years the last time on a school trip. Its a small castle but full off history & the view from the top is wonderful on a clear day , beware throe the tower steps are very steep & can be a little tricky for some.No facilities on site but Dundrum is just a small walk away with a few good cafes etc.Kids & history buffs will like this attraction.

We had two very good trips here. The setting is magnificent and the Castle itself is most interesting, especially for history lovers. Picnic facilities are good, opening hours are great, and there are good activities on offer for all the family.

This is free and there is plenty of parking. You can climb to the top of the tower and have a great view overlooking the land and water nearby. I still marvel at the designs and architecture of these behemoths build over 800 years ago. Most of it is in ruins but enough remains to make it interesting since it's free.

The view was amazing we got perfect weather for it too! The man in the box showed us his swords and told us a little history but my most favourite part was rolling down the hill weeeeee!!!!

What a lovely spot with amazing views over the Bay. Great place to enjoy the views, have a walk back in time and just relax and.........it's free! The only 'blot' is the fact that some visitors seem unable to read the signage on the gate i.e. "keep dogs on leash" - we were 'accosted' by 3 barking, leaping dogs which was frankly rather scary bearing in mind that one of our group was unsteady on her feet and another was a child. Can visitors not consider others and keep their animals under control? What a shame - curtailed a lovely day out.

Tucked well back from the main road, I was delighted when, out of curiosity, I followed the road signs and discovered Dundrum Castle. At the top of a steep road, there's a roomy carpark with picnic tables. Beyond this lie the Castle ruins, which are being properly preserved. There's no entrance fee and there are clean, well kept toilet facilities. Ideal pit stop for a picnic on a good day. The views takes in The Mournes and Dundrum Bay. Glorious vista on a clear sunny day.

The castle ruins are easy to get to and you are free to wander the grounds on your own. (no cost!) The views of Dundrum Bay and the Mourne Mountains are breathtaking. My kids had a ball climbing through the old rooms and walls left behind. Great spot for pictures!

It is a steep walk from the main road but we managed to push a wheelchair up the hill from our rental condo by the shore. The views of the Mourne mountains and Dundrum Bay are stunning. The castle itself is amazing to see with hundreds of years of history contained in the walls. There are convenient picnic tables and paved paths which are wheelchair accessible. I have been here many times but I never grow tired of the great views and the history steeped ruins.

I never met a castle I didn't like. This one is easy to find, and has great views in all directions. A large carpark insures easy access.
