I spent a rainy day here. I didn't find it anything special and walked around the place in a short time. Not that busy so it was quiet and I did try to look at everything. Not on a par with some of the musuems in Edinburgh or Glasgow. Centrally located.Staff were friendly and helpful.

Sad to say but Aberdeen Art Gallery is closing for 2 years I believe. as romMarch 2016. Problems with the marble staircase and other things. Really sad because I loved to wander about here and some of the special exhibitions held here were amazing - The Scotland Tapestry for one.

A fairly standard provincial civic collection with a usual bias towards Victorian art, particularly with some very grand Scottish portraits and some very interesting works of domestic/social historic interest. Very nice Millais. Shows an interesting permanent collection of James Mcbey work, a locally renowned etcher who was rather stuck in a linear style straightjacket when he expanded into watercolour and oil. Interesting work as a Middle East 1st World War artist - portrait of Lawrence of ArabiaHas an exceedingly stretched permanent watercolour collection with few good items.A good Bacon 'Screaming Pope' and a hackneyed neon sop to Tracy Emin just for the name. Good collection of Scottish colourists, Peploe et al, and some poor impressionist pieces there just for the names. The vigorous new modern Scottish figurative art is sadly lacking. The gallery will be closed soon for the building of an extension, lets hope the council finds some more interesting material to fill it! Check opening dates. As a hopefully constructive comment the gallery has a dire need to get more enterprising and get exhibitions via loan and swap from Edinburgh, Glasgow and the better English provincial civic galleries, eg Birmingham and Manchester. No good having a large gallery extension for the sake of civic pride if the art within is not interesting, stimulating and varied, especially so for residents of Aberdeen and the areaIf you are around Aberdeen and art interested this gallery is a must, but probably not worth a special journey from afar. It has a lovely entrance hall and a nice cafe!

I hadn't been here since I was a kid , decided to pop on with my wife for a coffee & break from Christmas shopping. Nice quiet cafe in gallery with good coffee & friendly staff. The Bon Accord Silver Band were playing Christmas Carols which gave the gallery a really nice feel. We had a look round the War display and the Art installations. Overall worth a visit / entry is free.

This is a bijou gallery with a wonderful marble staircase, which our incredibly ignorant council are proposing to decimate ... they should all be hung, drawn and quartered. This is a beautiful, dreamy historic building with masses of charm, about to be ruined by ignorant and unfeeling people.

Officail Statement at 13/12/2014Aberdeen Art Gallery will formally close to visitors at the end of January, but throughout the month of February we aim to offer some limited access so you can see what’s happening. These dates and times will be confirmed early in the New Year, when we will also announce details of a farewell event for all the family at the end of March. Re-opening of the redeveloped Gallery will be winter 2017.

I love the art gallery as a place to learn and relax. The shop has a great selection of souvenirs, including prints of many of its paintings. The cafe is a good place to go if you need a break from your wanderings

A nice collection of local and other art - small but some real gems in this gallery. There are quite a few of Joan Eardley's painting in the gallery plus some others such as Piper.

On the ground floor there's not much to captivate but this collection has some real gems. A good selection of Scottish enlightenment portraits, some great Scottish colourist landscapes and still lives and a wonderful collection of watercolours. Its worth coming to Aberdeen just to immerse yourself here

I visit regularly and enjoy visiting, however quite often the same pictures and artworks are always on display. I think the Keepers could do more to change the exhibits. How about showing some of the other sculptures and pictures? What about showing the glassware regularly changing the exhibits.

the title of this review might seem a bit odd but I'm amazed how many of my friends and co-workers who didn't know Aberdeen had an art gallery!.We have visited numerous times both with kids and without. Its located centrally near the Bon Accord centre and I would recommend parking here and walking round. Its a lovely building inside with lots to see. They usually have some sort of special exhibition on which changes over time so worth checking back every now and then.I would allow 1-2 hours for a visit.
