We visited the railway today after finding out that the station was opening for half term. A family ticket was our best option and at £18 for two adults and three children seems very reasonable, especially when you consider it is predominantly volunteer run.It was a quiet day so we naturally hogged first class. The children enjoyed the 2 mile round trip from Woody Bay to Killington and back and as adults it was also something nice to experience. The train had very obviously been lovingly restored and the little shop and tea rooms were well stocked.Very friendly staff and engaging with the children. A little hut shows the history of the line along with what the plans for the future are. There is plenty of parking, including disabled spots closer to the entrance and the toilets are easily accessible whilst being just a stones throw from the platform.Trains run approx 5 times a day, normally every hour or so and the ride itself lasts about 20 minutes. For those with dogs, they are not allowed inside (where the tea rooms are) but it looked as though there was an outdoor marquee but it seemed to only really be used in the summer months.Having been visiting North Devon for the last 8 years, we've never been before but definitely one of the places I'd recommend if you're near Lyton/Lynmouth or if you've been to the "usual" tourist attractions locally.More information can be found on their website: www.lynton-rail.co.uk

This was once a narrow gauge line from Lynton to Barnstaple, which closed over 70 years ago. A group of enthusiasts have worked incredibly hard to reopen a short stretch of track complete with period steam loco and rolling stock. This really is,a delightful little railway, adults and kids a like will love it. The ride takes less than an hour for the round trip but I believe you can ride for the day if you like. The station at Woody Bay has a small gift shop and toilets. Highly recommended!

Lovingly restored with original coaches and period Steam locomotive the journey from woody Bay through Exmore is stunning. Well worth a visit and hopefully soon they will be able to take you further as they extend the line towards Blackmoore.

The best Santa experience I have ever been to either with my children or grandchildren. Well organised and friendly, excellent children's entertainer. Wonderful Santa giving out named good quality gifts. The whole gave the feeling that the railway were endeavouring to give the children (and parents) a really good experience rather than just make money. A definite must for next year.

We had a very enjoyable if short trip on the narrow gauge railway with beautiful countryside and faraway views of the coast off to one side. The little railway is very well maintained, Woody Bay Station is full of interesting memorabilia, we enjoyed a lovely coffee and 'lite bite' in the tearooms there. Hopefully the track will be extended to the lake at Wistlandpound in the not too distant future, in the meantime the railway is well worth the support of all visitors to Exmoor.

Have always wanted to drive a steam train and my wife purchased a footplate experience for me as a present. Arrived early at 07:00, real hands on from cleaning out the firebox and polishing the engine to driving and firing the engine "AXE" up and down the section of line that's currently in place. A great bunch of people and in particular Peter who instructed me throughout and Dave in the guards van. Eventually left at about 17:00.Truly a great one to one experience, I would recommend it to anyone thinking of a similar experience. Fantastic.

This 1 mile reopened section of the Lynton and Barnstaple railway is a snap shot of what it used to be. They have genuine L&B carriages which have been beautifully restored for use on the railway. Unfortunately none of the original loco's appear to have survived. Fantastic views from the line across Exmoor. Good value as your ticket entitles you to as many trips as you like. The Tea Room is quite good as well. For £2.95 we had a large bowl of home made soup and a roll which was great on a cold and showery day. Well worth a visit. Kids will love it as well.

First class carriage worth paying the extra for! You can travel more than once in a day for your payment.

Authentic, immaculate and run by real enthusiasts. Nice experience, just too short, trip takes about 10-15 minutes, but you can take it as many times as you want for the same price. Great views!

Visited the railway on a sunny breezy Saturday A lovely railway at only 1 mile I length pleasant country side .plenty livestock in adjacent fieldsAs a railway being rebuilt from scratch after closure in early 20th century the staff/ volunteers have done a good jobShown around the loco shed 3 steam 1 diesel inside plus loco on train serviceThe railway also has a tea room with various dishes to chose from but can be very busy at certain times of day worth visiting,

Perfect trip back to another era as the little train makes its way over the short line across that bit of Exmoor. Woody Bay Station is a period Gem, Lovely and informative staff... Lets hope they expand the line!

It was a very good day out, and as we love the steam train`s it was just so goodto be there, it may be short but with time it will be even better

Yes -this is a very short ride BUT this an ongoing restoration project ,not a funfair attraction! So top marks to all the volunteers -and if you enjoy great views from your spotless little carriage and the grandkids love little steam locos -then this is for you.And if you feel the journey is a little short ,you can travel as many times as you wish in the day ,

We decided to go on this last minute with my sister who is in a wheelchair . The staff were patient and could not have helped any more then they did. They did this with a cheerful and happy demeanour. We had a lovely experience that has added to us having a lovely holiday!!
