The city's oldest cemetery, with family plots dating back to the 1700s.

I always like to check old cemeteries when I travel. This was one of the least interesting because a lot of the old markers were rotted and gone or crumbling. Apparently it used to be bigger as well, at least that is what we learned on the ghost tour. Some interesting historic markers and signs though so it is worth a walk through.

Very nice historic cemetery right in Downtown Savannah. Spend about an hour walking around and exploring. Very cool place.

Many of the counties in Georgia are named after people buried in this Cemetery. Many Colonial notables are buried here too.

Pretty much everything that can be said about this cemetery has already been said. However when visiting Savannah it's a must do.No visit here would be complete without stopping by to pay your respects to some of Georgia's great founding families.

Lot's of Savannah's ancestors in here. Interesting tombs, and low hanging Spanish moss creating a mystical aspect to the place.

The Cemeteries in this town are full of history and Paranormal Activity, those that still stand and those that you walk over with no markers.

It is interesting but very hard to read most of the head stones.Suggest reading about the cemetery before walking through it.

Located not far from River street, no stop to the historic district in Savannah would be complete with out a visit. With a Tombstone wall that runs the length of one side of the cemetery a result of tombstones being removed to allow training for the Confederate Army during the Civil war bring your camera.

I love the history found here, stones dating back to the 1700's.Very interesting to read the headstones .It's also pet friendly which makes a great place to walk the dogs in a peaceful atmosphere.

This is farily small cemetary and was used by the Union army as a campground by General Sherman's troops. There a several markers that tell the story of the famous people buried there. There is also a section against the back wall were many gravesite markers were relocated since the Union troops in 1864-65 were not the respectiveful of the gravesites.

Colonial Park is easily my favorite place in Savannah, which is probably a little weird since it is an old cemetery... :) There is a lot of history behind the cemetery, and the graves date back to the 17- & 1800's (it was used as a burial ground from 1750 - 1853). There are plenty of historical markers throughout the cemetery, and walking through doesn't take too long at all (and is free). Definitely a place to include on your visit, whether you're into spooky cemeteries or historic sites. If you take a tour that goes by the cemetery, definitely jump on it or ask your guide to tell you about the history of Colonial Park.

This is a beautiful cemetery with an sad and interesting history. If you can do a tour that includes this, do it.

If you like cemeteries as I do, you must check this out. It's a convenient walk through town on the way to other areas of the historic district. St. John's Cathedral is up the block. The cemetery is free and there are many stories including the one about Button Gwinnett. There are many more people buried here than the tombstones would let on. Union officers dislodged many of the stones when they camped there (these are mounted along the sides), but also there is evidence that bodies were buried one on top of the other. Burials in this cemetery ended in the 1850s when Bonaventure Cemetery was founded, so there are no confederate soldiers buried in Colonial Park.

We were quite enthralled with this cemetery in the historic district because it had many tombs that were built of bricks and cement to look like beds. No decoration, just a huge bed. I'd never seen this anywhere else. There were also many useful markers to tell us about those buried there (and let me tell you, they seemed to have had a lot of duels!) and the graves were very spread out, which is also unusual. Most of the grave markers are not legible so the signage really helps. It doesn't require a long stop, but we found it well worth a few minutes of our time.

As morbid as this sounds, I loved it. The grounds were well kept, and there were plenty of benches to rest at. The headstones were nicely preserved and taken care of. There were plenty of walk ways and historical markers. The landscaping is breath taking. I give this place 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
