As I have not seen every viewpoint at the Southrim of the Grand Canyon, I can't compare with all there is to offer but picture wise, this is where I took the best picture of my whole trip in the States.Besides the information on Powell Point, which was very interesting to read, you really should take your time here and sit quietly while observing the sunset. It's a very peaceful place to be at and a wonderful location for top knotch pictures!

This stop was one of our favorites. It was interesting to see the historical Powell Memorial which honors John Powell who was one of the 1st explorers of the canyon. This point juts out farther into the canyon than most viewpoints and you have canyon views all around you. Truly a great view all around you.We were here in late December when the weather was cold and windy but it is a great time of year with the ever changing weather and a lot less people than the summer crowds.

This is my favorite point in Rim trail; there is a huge rock on the very end, that you can step on, and get a great view and take amazing photos. Do not miss this point !

In 1869 John Weasley Powell went down the Colorado River to explore and gather data. There is a memorial here telling about him. It's a good lookout over the canyon along the south rim.

What I loved about Powell Point, in addition to the beautiful expansive, unobstructed views of the canyon, is that there's a cliff that you can walk out to and get some awesome "looking out" photos at the canyon. You do have to step over the rocks that they place there probably to prevent people from walking out there, but the platform is comfortably large enough and there is another level below the cliff (not to say that will save you if you fall over). Just be careful!

Powell Point is along the Hermit Road shuttle bus route and worth checking out. There is short path leading up to the observation area and you can see some of the old mining equipment on the slopes. There's a very nice memorial to John Wesley Powell and the river crew's expedition here. It is approx a 2 mile hike from Bright Angel Lodge and a short 1/3 mile to Hopi point. There are no washrooms here. The nearest ones are at Hopi Point. Powell Point is a two-way shuttle stop should you decide to head back to Bright Angel Lodge to catch the blue line back to the Visitor's Center. The only fee is your vehicle park pass from the main gates.

Sunset along the Hermit Road will provide amazing views of the canyon. Powell Point is one fantastic spot to get off the shuttle and soak in the views. Linger here and grab the next shuttle that comes along.

Powell Point affords a very different perspective on the Canyon than is seen from the El Tovar/Hopi House area. Those that have hiked will appreciate seeing different parts of the Tonto Trail and a tiny piece of the Colorado can be seen from here. The free rim shuttle will take you directly there and back so this jaunt takes little time, if you are in a rush.

Went here instead of Hopi point for sunset and it was wonderful! Not too busy ,quiet and lovely views! Find a quiet spot and just soak up the view!

Named after John Wesley Powell, U.S. Soldier, Geologist, Explorer and Professor, Powell Point in Grand Canyon is another location / stop for Great Views of the Grand Canyon. When At Powell point, make it point to go to the monument as well for some history, Grand Canyon exploration in early 1900s. You need to take the 'Hermit's Rest Route' to access Powell point and it's conveniently connected by Shuttle Bus service.

The memorial at the top is well placed to honor this amazing man. He must be in heaven to spend every day to eternity in such a beautiful setting.

After hiking into the canyon in the morning, we hopped onto the shuttle on the red route (Hermit's Rest) and stopped at several points to see different perspectives of the Grand Canyon. We enjoyed the views at Maricopa Point ... walked to Powell Point (0.5 mile)... continued walking to Hopi Point (0.3 mile)... took the shuttle to Mohave Point... and then looped around to Village Route Transfer. Powell Point is where they built a large memorial to Major John Powell. We preferred to walk past the memorial to see the fantastic views from the edge. You can stand close to the edge for some great pictures -- just be careful because many tourists have fallen off the edge accidentally. There's a couple benches at this stop where we sat and had some snacks. Such great photo ops!

we stopped her too. it was another very nice scenic time that we will always remember if you head to the Grand Canyon we recommend that you see as much as possible. We spent a MINIMUM two full days here. you won't be sorry

This is my favorite stop on the Red Route Shuttle to Hermit's Rest (80 mins roundtrip). You should get off at this stop and walk to Hopi Point (0.3 miles, 10-min walk). This is also only 1 of 3 stops on this route that goes both eastbound (back to the Grand Canyon Village) and westbound (towards Hermit's Rest, the final stop). The unique thing about Powell Point is that it has a flight of stairs (albeit small) that affords you even better views from merely 20 feet higher than the other vantage points, but still worth the visit.

I really liked this spot. We are near the end of our walk and stopped here for pictures and to rest. If you are 'slightly' adventurous when you get to the end of the main lookout if you go to the right you can climb down the rocks. Then you can have sit near the edge of the cliff. It's safe and it's a great place to see the sunset, plus it's quiet. This was my favorite spot.
