The first thing I would do in preparation for a walk/ride to view the Fossil Reef and Biscayne Bay is to make a stop at the Nature Center. Pick up a copy of the general brochure, "Welcome to Crandon Park's Bear Cut Preserve." This will provide an overview of information about the area and has a map of the four trails. There are two trails (Osprey Beach Trail and Fossil Reef Bike Trail) that lead to the view mentioned above. There are two other short loop trails (Bear Cut Nature Trail [1/2 mile] and the Tequesta Hammock Trail [1/4 mile]). All trails begin at the north end of the Nature Center. And, there are individual brochures describing all four trails also available at the Nature Center. We recently walked out on the Osprey Beach Trail (1 mile) and returned on the Bicycle Trail (paved). The brochures describe the plant communities that you traverse, the animal species that you can expect to be there, and a lot of general information about the area. The one thing that struck me as we walked to the Fossil Reef overlook was the lack of signage. Oh, there were quite a number of signs, but almost all were illegible, having been weathered down almost completely. Quite a deplorable situation! Here, there is a great opportunity to educate visitors about a number of different Florida habitats, and that opportunity is missed. The Miami-Dade Department of Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces should invest the money necessary to make this a first class educational experience instead of just a nice walk to the beach. And, not to just redo all the signs that are unreadable, but also provide new signage to identify the predominant plant species. And, if the Parks Department budget is slim, as it probably is, they should contact some local Boy Scout Troop. Redoing the signage would make a terrific and meaningful Eagle Scout project. I've seen that done! One word of caution. We went on a weekend, and there were tons of bikers biking to the overlook. This was, we thought, a pretty dangerous situation, especially when there were families riding two abreast. If you can, visit on a weekday........fewer bikes and less noise.

Not much to this 2.3 mile hike, the trIl does open up to very nice views of the beach and ocean. Not much in way of wildlife.

This place has wonderful views of the bay. Although some of it is quite litered it is a beautiful are full of trees, shade and natural habitat. We go there to be in touch with beauty, nature and see some fishing. It is a great place to explore and enjoy.

You should bike from Crandon Beach (or Key Biscayne), to the Bear Cut Bridge (now under repair). There is a pretty nice bike path from the Key Biscayne village entrance, so you can safely ride and enjoy the scenery.

Mistura da natureza... entre árvores, trilhas, pequenos animais e a praia. Lindo passeio. Longe da badalação... muito bom para relaxar.
