Rhone splendor, wines with length and intensity but perfectly balanced, not heavy or tiring in the mouth.

I visited Cowhorn Vineyard in June for the first time. I had done some research into Rhone style vineyards in southern Oregon and added this to our trip. The wine has received some acclaim for its quality and we were not disappointed. It is a bio dynamic vineyard which should be of interest to those who are interested in very organic and mindful growing/winemaking practices. The owner was very accomodating by remaining open past closing time to pour wine for us. The tasting room is right in the wine making facility which is located in the vineyard. Modest but comfortable. The wines showed great skill in construction and the fruit was brilliant. Love the Rhone whites and reds both. We were so impressed that we joined the wine club on the spot (I'm very picky about wine clubs and see them as a long term commitment to the highest quality wines).

In the beautiful Applegate Valley near Jacksonville, sits a small family-owned winery, following biodynamic farming and grape-growing. Our guide was friendly and informative. The Viognier blends were excellent. They are also known for their Syrahs. Their 2012 wines received 92points and 93points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. It is nice to see such dedicated people, following their dreams. A small tasting fee is waived if you purchase wine.

I was lucky enough to visit Cowhorn Vineyard with friends who grow wine grapes and have their own well-received winery. Barbara Steele and my friends had a detailed conversation on grape growing and Cowhorn's biodynamic approach. The Steele's and their vineyard manager have optimized their terroir and the rhythms of cultivation and pruning. It shows in their wines. They have a small output but every wine is a winner. Try their Syrah! If you are visiting southern Oregon wineries, stop at Cowhorn.

Our visit to Cowhorn Vineyard was a great visit to a family owned and operated winery. First, we enjoyed tasting their small selection of wines and purchased some delightful Syrah 80 to bring home. Second, the setting is a beautiful example of the small valleys in the area and the winery is committed to Biodynamic farming. You can see their design plan in the tasting area to understand their approach to farming and its impact on the fluid in your glass. Third, the owner made us feel like he cared we were there and told stories about the development of the winery. All this mixed together to create a memorable experience that we highly recommend.
