Whenever we go to the Shenandoah Valley, we head straight for this winery. The dessert wines are wonderful! And the art gallery on the second floor is spectacular. Now, if they had a quartet quietly playing jazz or light classical in the corner, we might never leave ...

This family owned vineyard was perfect for our Sunday wine tasting. We'd sampled tasted their wine the previous night at dinner, but their other sweet wines blew us away. We walked out with 18 bottles to entertain our friends in the nights to come. Ask Michael to pour you a sample of the "Owl Wine" - this Zinfandel will be perfect relaxing work, chilling by the pool in the summer, or just because you deserve it!

We stumbled across Spinetta two years ago during a Week-end get away weekend. Neither of us are big wine drinkers, but it has an Art Gallery upstairs so it was worth a stop. After touring the gallery, which has some interesting paintings, we spoke with the sales staff. They offered us a tasting, we declined, stating we preferred sweet wines, like Apple or Pear wine. They suggested we try their Chenin Blanc since it had similar attributes. We tried it and we purchased two bottles. They offered a few suggestions of other wines, but they were not pushy. We have gone back several times, driving two hours just to get there. The staff has always been friendly and informed and offered suggestions. This is a small family run winery with a limited production runs of mostly sweet wines. It is more of an Artisan winery rather than a Tourist destination. Off the beaten path, but worth a visit to the quieter, slower more relaxed side of wineries.

The wines are sweet for those new to wine tasting or just like sweeter wines. Reasonably priced as well.

The title may be a bit misleading - they do have dry wines, but I think they specialize in in sweet wines. This is a small family winery with limited production, so that may be why some people felt they were stingy with the tasting. However, they give you enough to taste their wines. As for having to choose between sweet and dry - most people either prefer one or the other, but not both. Their sweet wines go well with hot, spicy foods and some are great dessert wines, unique. We have been here several times and our experience has always been positive. One of the sons usually tends bar, and sometimes he has run the cash register too, but keep in-mind that this is a small family operation and the rest of the family is probably working on production. At least one of the sons has a degree in winemaking from UC Davis. There is also a nice art gallery in the loft.If you prefer dry wines, this is probably not the place for you, but if you prefer you wine on the sweet side, you might want to give this a try.

we were on a limo wine tasting trip for our firneds 30th. this was the 3rd winery on our list. i had been there before ,so put it on the list for my friends to try their wines. i had made appointments at each place before hand, so we could get in as many as possible in the time we had with the limo. when we came though the door, we werent greeted in any way. when i finally got the young mans attention, i told him we had an appointment. he didnt say anything. when it was finally "our turn", we stepped uo to the tasting counter andhe told us we COULDNT try ALL the wines, it was agianst the law! i thought to myslef "every place weve been so far has let us try everything they had?", knowingthe wines, i wanted to try some dry and some sweet, which according to the young man (which we found out later was realted somehow to the place) wa snot allowed. so my husband got the dry tasting and i got the sweet, so we could share. the young man tried to tell me that wasnt allowed, i told him we were both going to have "half" a taste each. which he wanted to pour similtaniously, which we all know, tasting sweet and dry together is counter productive. so i stopped him from pouring my "swwets" till we finished with the "drys". really weird policy at this palce! anyway, it does have a BEAUTIFUL art galery on the premisis! worth taking a look at for sure! they have nice wine, but strange policies!

8 of us did the limo thing in Shenandoah Valley, we had hit 3-4 tasting rooms before Spinetta's and did the traditional tasting of whites to reds, to desert wines. At this place they make you decide if you are going to taste dry or sweet. So my wife and I chose one of each tastings, which they tried to say we could not do. It was so confusing going red, sweet, white, sweet, red, white, etc. We bought some wine, but I was very turned of by the experience. We then continued onto 4 more vineyards and were pleased to get back to the normal order of things. Also, even though we had a reservation with Spinetta's, when we walked in, we were not greeted as such.

There are many good wineries in the Plymouth/Shenandoah Valley area. Charles Spinetta Winery is one which attracts visitors with a very nicely done wildlife gallery. The wines rank in the middle of the pack for this viticultural area (of course this depends on your palate). I usually leave wishing the wine was as great as the gallery.

Charles Spinetta Winery has long been one of our favorites. The sweet wines please most in our party and the reds please the rest. Tasting room is often staffed with members of the Spinetta family. Picnic tables are available outside so you can enjoy a quiet lunch or a nice bottle of wine. There is also an art gallery upstairs that is fun to browse through.
