I was looking forward to a walk after a long car ride. The Island is definitely a worthy hike but there were too many bugs the afternoon we were in Pierre. We liked the view of the water and the park by the Island.

I enjoyed walking the trail along the outside of the island. Will have to hike some more of them when I am back another time.

Nice trails for hiking or biking. You can can do as little or as much as you want. I've been on every trail, every shore. Its an unexpected treat next to the capitol city. Its still in recovery from the flood of 2011, and you can see the water lines on many of the trees, but its one of my favorite quick retreats to nature with I need a moment of peace. Its not the Black Hills or the Grand Tetons, but its quick and does the job. Enjoy when you can.

There is a "river rat taxi" that will take you over to the island for a donation otherwise just hike up your shirt and shorts and wade over. There are plenty of boats docked on the weekends and holidays but always room for more. There isn't a sandy beach but more of a clay/mud beach. Good place for younger adults to hang out.

This is a nice place to go for someone that lives in Pierre to go for exercise. Different parts of the island offer different views of stuff that is excellent for practicing photography. You really have to look hard to get something cool and that is part of the challenge.

LaFramboise Island was underwater from the Missouri Rver Flood of 2011 from May 2011 until October2011. It was another year before the Causeway road was rebuilt. When I was out there you could see the waterlines from the flood and there was a deposit of silt that had been left from the flood at the main entrance. I went out there to shoot fall pictures and the colors looked fantastic although I did not see a lot of dead trees,Very peaceful place to commune with nature and have every intention of walking the trail next spring. It was like reuniting with a long lost friend.

I had a perfect sunset run around the island at sunset while at the SD Tourism Conference. Crank up the tunes...get on a trail...enjoy the hardwoods and the geese.

This island was named "Good Humor Island" the the Lewis & Clark Journals. Today you can access the island by causeway from Pierre's Steamboat Park. There are great hiking and bike trails and from places on the south side of the island, you will see the Missouri River for miles without any sign of habitation, much like what Lewis and Clark saw in 1804 and 1806.

The island is a wonderful place for a peaceful walk and contemplation. I can't wait until they repair the causeway and road over to the island. I look out my window every day and see the island taunting me, but I can't visit until the island has access again. The Corps of Engineers owes us this after last year's disasterous flood management. I just hope the trees survive after having their root structures threatened by the water levels. I don't want to look at the dregs of Ft. Pierre every day.

Located off Steamboat Park along the river, this is a favorite area for exercisers, hikers, and nature buffs. This island has several walking, biking, and hiking paths that stretch up to 3 miles. Currently, access to the island is hindered, thanks to the flood in 2011. However, this local hopes to get back to the island this summer.

I grew up in Pierre and we hiked this island a lot however we had a flood last year and there is not access to this island at this time. I wonder what the island looks like too since it was flooded. I hope that someday it will be open again.

Short but nice hiking trails around the island. Can be busy in the summer. A pretty place to hike in the fall.
