What can be more charming than a quiet island in the middle of the river off a busy interstate bridge in a small downtown? Especially when the island includes a log-cabin museum chock full of artifacts that tell the story of a busy lumber town in the late 1800s?Probably not much. The museum, operated by the local historical society, is stocked with lumbermens' tools, household items, photographs, clothing, toys, and a small sawmill (in a new addition). Outside is a preserved pioneer cabin, a park, a performance pavilion, a monument and a stunning piece of public art - a quiet oasis surrounded by water. Park your car near the tourist info center and walk to the island via footbridge.

I don't know if you normally get a private tour, but it was slow that day, so we had our own guide. She was interesting and obviously enjoyed her job. The miniature logging camp is unbelievable and the machines from a saw mill are huge and intersting. There are also a lot of items that people have donated to the museum, so they are just there. Some are fun to look at and other are just old.My wife and I thought that it was worth the time to visit.

We visited the Stephenson Island, the logging museum, strolled looking at all the historic cabins and artifacts on display and even had a picnic-style lunch on Menominee River. The place was a nice greeting to us as we entered Wisconsin. It was out lunch break, information center. a place to regroup and a place to learn about the local history. There is a bridge from the Welcome Center to the Stephenson Island and the cabins on display.

This museum is terrible,CLUTTERED - its hard to take everything in here, its like being in a hoarder's house, they obviously dont know less is more.DISPLAYS: its displays are out of date, boring, not well organized, dirty, aging and faded. DONT TAKE YOUR KID - This is not a place to take small children as there is nothing for them to interact with.GRUMPY OLD TIMERS - The place is staffed by grumpy old women and men who will follow you around and look at you like you are stealing their baby. SKIP THE MUSEUM, ENJOY A PICNIC ON THE ISLAND INSTEAD

The Logging Museum is located near the entrance of Stephenson Island City Park, at the south side of the Twin Cities Bridge. There is ample parking and the local Tourist Center and public library are just across a small foot bridge. If volunteer tour guides are available, ask them to give you a guided tour - well worth the time!

If you're expecting a large public museum this is not it. For local history this is worth the stop. The museum is run by local volunteers who are very knowledgeable of the logging history of the area. And while you're there, be sure to get a tour of the Evancheck cabin. When you consider all the comforts and room you have in your current home, it's hard to believe this is where one large family lived.

This great little park is worth a visit. Great picnic and grassy areas for kids or pets. Museum is informative and interesting. Best of all is that the park has wifi. This is a perfect spot for a lunch hour getaway, a road trip pit stop and stretching opportunity or a family reunion. It is right over the bridge between Marinette and Menominee, MI. A little hard to see, just look for the horses pulling a huge load of logs!
