The Wanamaker's General Store is a one-of-a-kind place. It is in the middle of the boondocks near Lesar Lake and has a room full of convenience goods for locals who don't want to make a trip to a store closer to town, a cooler case with wonderful sandwiches, etc. and a couple of small tables and chairs. I go to the lake now and then and plan the trip around eating there for lunch. There is something about the country store atmosphere and the cheerful people that run the place that is half the fun of the trip. It is well worth the trip off the beaten path just to soak up the vibes for a while.

I found this general store by looking on google maps for places around Hawk Mountain. The store was established in 1886, it is in a quaint building with a porch decorated with gingerbread trim. Inside, a wealth of groceries are available, much nicer things than you would find at a typical convenience store. (Bulk items, gluten free flours, produce, ice cream, toys) There is a full service deli that will quickly make your sandwich to order with a smile. There are tables both inside and out. When we were there, there were also handmade soaps and fresh floral bouquets for sale. Our sandwiches were generous and delicious. Just the place to stop after hiking at Hawk Mountain.
