We discovered this gem when our son's dinosaur interest turned to bird (especially raptor!) fascination. They do great work here rehabilitating injured animals, but also excel at teaching about man and his interaction with nature without getting preachy.Combine a visit here with a drive through Lone Elk Park just across the street and you have an inexpensive and fascinating half-day of experiencing nature while learning a thing or two without realizing it.

I live in Florida but always stop by the World Bird Sanctuary when visiting family in St Louis. I love the place, which is constantly improving and expanding. They do remarkable work to save birds not only in Missouri but from around the world. Their training techniques are first rate; in fact they produce and present bird shows for various zoos around the country (or at least they used to do this). Walter Crawford, their founder, is a visionary---and a person with a spectacular sense of humor. I have attended some of his presentations and learned and laughed a lot, a good combination. It is so worth the visit. The grounds are beautiful, the birds are nicely displayed and the staff will take the time to talk to you. It's a top rated attraction.

We live about 10 minutes from the World Bird Sanctuary. It is such an experience! Love it since more has been added to it. We go once a month at least, and anytime friends are over we take them there. Such a neat place!

Location is in Hout Bay, arrive by bus,or car south of Cape Town City on edge of town . Small car park, rustick charm to the place. They look after an amazing amount of birds, wild animals, and monkeys, in some cases really close encounter. Beware in Monkey enclosure they might steal ! things !. ? They have crammed on a lot to see on a small place, lots of staff to look after the animals, small cafe , toilets etc. . A real eye opener to the variety of species they are tring to. Look after. The site is clean and tidy, not are sine zoo, but if you paid for entry at such a low cost money goes on looking after the birds and animals.

If you are into birds or looking for something different to do on a Saturday, the bird sanctuary offers an interesting mix of the worlds birds! You are able to just walk around freely and get up close to the cages.

The World Bird Sanctuary is a hidden gem nestled in the hills near Lone Elk Park. They truly operate on a wing and a prayer, rehabbing wild birds - especially raptors like eagles, hawks and owls. Birds being rehabbed are kept away from the public. There are many permanent residents to enjoy. Visits are free but well worth some of your cash before you depart or take the plunge and become a member. A number of special programs available. Staff friendly and love to talk about their animals.

They have different kinds of Eagles and it is great experience for young and old. The boy scouts are highly involved in this attraction. It is a must see.

World Bird Sanctuary is truly a gem for anyone interested in birds - the roles they play, how they are affected by human choices, and how this amazing organization protects, educates and assists birds that have been injured or abandoned. We have been supporters for five years and make the 10 hour round-trip once a year for their Open House weekend when the Hospital and the lower site (breeding barns, training facility, etc) are open to the public. The staff and volunteers are passionate about their mission and the facility is absolutely amazing.

Just like another reviewer, we had seen promotions for the World Bird Sanctuary many times on TV. We decided to visit when we read about their open house the weekend of October 18/19. There were some birds that you could take photos of and many more in enclosures. Although it was very interesting, I doubt that we'll go back. It was a great place to visit once. The work they do to rehabilitate injured birds is remarkable.

Had no idea this place existed until today. Their mission is to care for and restore birds who have been injured, and to promote a better understanding of birds in the wild. They work a lot with eagles, many kinds of eagles, hawks, owls, and a few birds I did not recognize. There are a lot of birds to look at, hiking trails, tours, and exhibits. They do amazing work. Highly recommend this to all.

We only had an hour to visit so didn't get a chance to fully experience the sanctuary. We will definitely visit again the next time we are in the St. Louis area. There are a lot of different birds in the sanctuary, educational exhibits, hiking trails etc. It is a very peaceful place and the scenery is absolutely beautiful - especially if you are fortunate to be there as the leaves are changing color. It is free to visit but there are donation boxes as well as literature on how to contribute more if you are interested in supporting their work. Highly recommend a visit!

I loved this place - probably because I love birds! I felt kind of bad seeing them tied up, but I understand why it's done. We had a wonderful time hiking through the forest preserve - listening to all the birds, hearing the leaves rustle in the wind - and when we took the tunnel trail, it was so cool discovering the body of water right after going under the tunnel. It was so peaceful and quiet - totally felt rejuvenated after hanging here for a while. Only thing I wish I did different is use some sort of bug spray. next time for sure. We also picked up several of the bird houses they had on display. Great price, great cause.

I’m from MA and this was my 3rd visit to World Bird Sanctuary. Something draws me back when I visit the St Louis area. I love seeing the birds that are on exhibit and I enjoy the peaceful nature of their space. It’s free to visit, but there are boxes where you can make donations to help support the important work that they do. You can talk with the people working there to learn more about what they do and get your questions answered. The people I chatted with on this visit were friendly and knowledgeable. I especially enjoyed talking with Rich. He was near the enclosure next to the parking area and was happy to talk to me about the birds that we were looking at - white hawk, eagle, vulture.
