We actually stayed in the rooms above the saloon for the night, so we had the chance to visit the Saloon in the afternoon, early evening and later in the night once the band started. The bartenders were great storytellers (yes the ghost stories were the most fun!). The other patrons were fun to visit with too! This was by far one of the most fun nights out in a while.

I love this place. Great people. I enjoy having an evening cocktail and watching spectacular sunsets over the Mississippi River.

We stopped by for a drink while in Nachez because the place sounded historic and pretty cool. When we got there, the one bartender pretty much ignored us until I walked up to the bar and ordered drinks. When I tasted mine, I realized the bartender did not know how to make what I asked for or used such poor liquer that it tasted wrong. We left after one drink. My advice is that if you stop in, have a beer.

We visited Natchez Under-the-Hill Saloon after reading about it as one of Mark Twain's old haunts from his days on steamboats and were intrigued by the "colorful" history. Under-the-Hill Saloon is definitely a departure from the antebellum homes and costumed guides of the rest of Natchez, and is one of the few places in Natchez where you are actually near the water of the Mississippi River, not overlooking it from a high bluff. Under-the-Hill Saloon is an old-looking bar with historical memorabilia on the wall, but in the end it is just a bar, and a noisy one at that. There was live music turned up to 11 and a big crowd when we went, so we ended up having to text each other across a small table just to communicate. It was enjoyable enough for a short visit with a couple of drinks, but don't expect the flair or culture of other attractions in Natchez.

On our tour of Natchez we visited a couple of places in Natchez under the hill and this was one of them. It is an old saloon like you would see in old western movies. We had just come from the Camp where the beer selection was stellar to this place where the it was not so much. No table service as you ordered from the bartender and took your bottle back to your table. We were there late afternoon and the only people there were regulars or friends of the bartender. Since the beer was lacking and the place was dead we decided to finish our beers and head back to the camp. Suppose on another day or later it might turn into a great place but we didn't see that here. Although there was nothing really wrong we probably wouldn't return.

Old and Rustic! The bathroom is a bit dirty, though. Drinks were reasonably priced and don't expect a dirty martini. Get a jack and coke and call it a night.

We found the Under the Hill Saloon to be a very unique stop. You almost felt the presence of the river gamblers and all of the other people in the past who had frequented the establishment.

The Under the Hill Saloon is a wonderful example of the Old South as it was for the working man, gamblers, thieves and ladies of the night! The walls are filled with memorabilia from days gone by. Overlooking the Mighty Mississippi River, you can drink and most nights listen to live music. When there is live music there is a five dollar cover.

Not much to do on a Monday in Natchez so we hung out at Under the Hill. Good beer for a good value (the wine is only so so). But the locals and bartender made our evening by playing cards with some silly girls. We also got to throw a dollar on the ceiling. Good fun.

Have been in this saloon many times. We usually visit Natchez at least once a year and sometimes twice a year. Whenever we are in Natchez, the Under the Hill Saloon is a place we always visit. The old historical building has withstood the years well. The bartenders are very friendly and can give you a lot of info about Natchez. Another thing, this place is where locals visit and I must say, we have met some of the most interesting and friendly people here. We like a place where we have not heard a harsh word. Weather permitting, you can sit on a bench outside the bar and enjoy the breezes off the Mississippi and watch ships go by.

I don't think you should visit Natchez without having a beer in the ""Under the Hill Saloon"" this is a pub that is just withstood the years & is part of the history of the Mississippi. the paddle steamers pulled in here & the most slaves traded in the US were brought into the south via this very spot. this is the Saloon that the guys drank in a traded ship parts in, you see the boats would come down the river & then they would be sold & broken up for timber & the other ship parts, this bar has been made from those very same ship timber, even the footpath outside is still made of ship timber as all the footpaths were back in the day. while your there you must try to track down the legend man by the name of "John David" he has been an owner of this place for a very long time & seen a lot over the years, have a beer & a chat, very interesting guy, may even let you get a photo with him.......thanks John David......the Loz from Oz

Wonderful people, good band, lots to drink and sunset over the Mississippi to round it off. Great time spent here talking to the locals, sharing a laugh and dance.

Loved this place! We were staying at the Dunleath Plantation hotel. We took a horse drawn ride and were told about this bar. We were soon welcomed by all the locals. We drank with them and even sang karaoke with them. We enjoyed ourselves so much that we didn't realise that when we went to leave it was actually 2am.. All the locals were genuinely friendly and kept offering to buy drinks for us. We laughed a lot with them and had a lot of fun. The local star in the house is JD, a guy who has drunk in the bar forever. He's a crease. Thank you all x

My friend and I just visited Under the Hill Saloon and stayed at the Mark Twain guest house next to the bar. We had such a fun night and were welcomed with open arms by the locals. The guest house was gorgeous and you get full views of the Mississippi river from rooms 1 & 3. The sunset was breathtaking and the atmosphere in the Saloon is brilliant. Really cheap drinks and the accommodation was really cheap too. The barman Chase is an absolute legend and total sweetheart. It's worth going to visit just so you can have a chat with him.
