I reviewed the Parkway previously, but forgot to mention 2 things: 1. The middle lane is for Passing ONLY in designated areas. These areas will all have signage indicating when you are in a Passing Zone. At all other times, remain in the right lane. Don't straddle both lanes. As I mentioned before, watch your speed. Speed limit is 45 MPH and is patrolled by the National Park Service Police. 2. You can't beat the beauty of Spring on the Parkway, with all the dogwoods in bloom, and in the Fall, the changing foliage is awesome. Winter brings even better views of the York & the James Rivers. PS: There are a couple of good kite flying areas near the water - especially good for the months of March & April. Parking available in the pull offs. (Avoid parking in non-designated areas).

While staying in a B&B in the area we ventured onto the Colonial Park Highway. We drove from Jamestown down to Yorktown via the highway and was rewarded with some of the best scenery after a fresh snowfall which is rare from what we were told. The highway is lined with trees and the York River running alongside.Worth the time to take a ride in peace and no rushing if your in the area.

My man and I came up to Williamsburg to bicycle. As avid bikers we love to bike everywhere a lot of the staffers at places we visited said bike the parkway to see the whole triangle. We decided to bike from Williamsburg to Yorktown... Bad idea!!!! The trip itself makes for a really good workout but the road is not really meant for bikes as it was cobblestone . It's not supposed to have commercial vehicles but that was definitely not the case! As soon as we got on it and started biking we almost got pushed off the road by a car with the passenger telling us to get off!! The whole way to and from Yorktown was very tense! We almost got hit numerous times by drivers who apparently didn't know how share the road! There are 3 lanes! The middle lane is strictly for passing but no one wanted to use it! We will never bike on the parkway again!

This is a rough road between Yorktown and Jamestown passing through and under Williamsburg. It is beautiful and relaxing riding along the York River and then the James River. It is a MUST ride especially on a motorcycle.

We drove this parkway from Jamestown, through Williamsburg, to Yorktown - my first trip on it in 35 years. What a masterpiece! Long stretches of riverfront drive on both the James and York rivers, with fantastic stretches of forest between. Low speed limits, so you don't have to be in a hurry. If you're one of those nutball tailgaters, this road is not made to get there fast, so take the other roads that get you there faster and leave the beauty of this parkway to those of us who enjoy it.Another great accomplishment of our federal government (take that Tea Partiers). And no tolls to bother your enjoyment. The attention to detail is great - brickwork on the bridges, stone paving, few road signs, and nearly all natural views the length of the road. And what could be better than driving from the first permanent English settlement in America, to the colonial capital of Virginia, to the site of the final victory of the Revolution?

My wife and I live in Yorktown and love to drive our old street rod down the Colonial Parkway to Williamsburg on nice weekends. Frequently we pull over by the York River to have a picnic and watch the boats go by. The scenery is beautiful and reminds us of home in rural New England. If you find yourself in Yorktown, Williamsburg, or Jamestown, it is well worth your time to make the trip.

The Parkway is a very nice place to ride. Going from Yorktown to Jamestown, you first go along the York River for several miles, then cross the Lower Penisular and ride along the the James River. If you're in the mood for some history, the Yorktown Battlefield, Yorktown Victory Center, Williamsburg, Historic Jamestowne, and Jamestown Settlement are all accessible from the Parkway.

This is one of the highlights of our yearly journey to Williamsburg. Driving along the parkway from historic Williamsburg to Historic Yorktown. It also goes in the other direction to Jamestown but we've not driven that way in quite a while. Maybe next trip. When in this area there are certainly faster ways to get from Williamsburg to Yorktown but nothing near as scenic. Should take around 20 minutes to make the trip so enjoy the views and when in Yorktonw be prepared for history and don't forget to save time for riverwalk.

It is a marvelous feat to be able to build a road from Jamestown through Williamsburg and on to Yorktown through what appear to be pristine forests and vast views of the York and James Rivers. Yet, with modern civilization only a few hundred yards away, one cannot hardly see it. The road is the perfect complement to the historic sites that it connects by continuing the illusion that one has stepped back in history some 200 to 300 years. Be sure to take the road just before sunset so that you may see the many deer that are grazing in the meadows. We must have seen three dozen.

Beautiful scenery, great picnic spots, and usually little traffic. See the battlefields and the beach in Yorktown!!!

A wonderful drive along the river to Yorktown was relaxing and very enjoyable. You can drive the parkway into Williamsburg as well as to Yorktown.

The parkway gets you all around the area surrounding Williamsburg and Yorktown. Beautiful drive. The foliage in the fall was almost gone but you could see how pretty it had been previously.

You have to be willing to have a relaxed drive - the speed limit is 35. It is a lovely drive through the woods with many scenic views of the York and James rivers and the Williamsburg area. It takes you directly to Jamestown and Yorktown. There are also several scenic and historical pull-offs.I live in the area and drive it as often as I can. It is not that slow considering the traffic jams on I-64!My other choices are based on this being the drive and not stopping.
