I so appreciate that this home has been preserved, and the museum does a good job of interpretation, despite the fact that very little is known about Mary Ball Washington. The guide did a fantastic job, and I love that they dress up! I recommend a visit!

Closed when we were there, very nice on outside. Located in Historic Fredericksburg. Down the block from the old Slave Auction Block still standing for over 150 years.

Had not toured in about 10 years. House guide was excellent. House and guide equal to any in Williamsburg VA. Our friend's 9-year-old was kept interested. Nice house and period furnishings.

I loved the tour guides in period dress as they were extremely knowledgable, passionate and entertaining. I didn't know how interesting George Washington's mother could be until I came here. It was inspiring to learn how the town women came together to save and preserve this house and restore it authentically to share with visitors. Highly recommended. Best recommendation I can give is to visit the visitors centre and get a day pass and you can visit as many of these places as you like for only $16!

The place itself is not that much. Few items that catches attention. Fortunattely a nice tour tells the story of GW's mother and how she lived. You get some nice stories that paint the picture of a strong woman who lived her own exentric life and got an idea about social relations at the time...and how it was being the mother of a great man

The final home of Mary Washington, George's mother, and what a delight it is. You learn so much from visiting places like these where everything is so carefully explained and documented. The fact that George Washington visited and slept here is quite awesome. And a walk around Mary's beautiful garden is so relaxing.

The Mary Washington house is one of the attractions that takes you back to that time. In costume tour guides talking to you as if you were visiting at Mary's home. The tour was fun and educational. Some beautiful pieces of furniture and household items and a garden in the back. The house looks bigger on the outside. The actual home has an addition built on that was constructed by a later owner who used it for a school. It is used for office space and a small gift shop. The guides take you on the tour of the down stairs space and you are free to do the second floor on your own. You can purchase tickets for the visit or stop at the Visitors Center on Caroline Street and purchase The Timeless Pass for $32 for about 9 attractions. It is worth it if you are going to be there for a few days. It is difficult to do it all in one day. Most of the museums and attractions are open from 10 AM to about 5PM some close earlier. We found it was worth it to buy the pass and take our time enjoying the old town and tours.

This was a nice stop on our way to Kenmore House. It was interesting to learn about Mary Washington. The guided tour was very interesting.

For anyone interested in history, this is a wonderful place. To imagine that you are standing in the house the George Washington purchased for his mother in 1772. It is amazing to learn that some of the original boxwoods in the garden were planted by her and that some of her furniture and china are displayed in the house. The docent guide was wonderful and provided insight into the history of the building. Great visit.

I loved the tour of the Mary Washington House. It felt surreal to be somewhere George Washington visited. The tour guides are knowledgeable and offer a lot of insight into what life was like in the past.

A small home that has grown over time, full of history. The guides were in costume, and generally were knowledgeable, although our tour was mostly focused on the Civil War, which they knew less about; I asked if it was damaged in the fighting and was told both sides avoided it, but upstairs there is a photo of damage from a gun shot, and a not it housed confederate wounded. The furniture has mostly gone back to Yale, but some pieces like a teapot owned by Mary Washington remain. She was of course the mother of George Wahington, so Iit was fascinating to hear how she managed as a widow from 35 to a very unusually old age into late 80s.She had slaves, some housed in the seperate kitchen building, which while common and perhaps not surprising for the time, could have been discussed more (again as we were focused on Civil War this fact seemed poignant). The home is sparsely furnished except in the parlour where she would entertain guests. The house was substantially expanded when George arranged for a second floor to be built, later, for his mother. There is a small entrance fee of $5 per person, which is fair value for the tour (about 25 minutes) and self-guided element. Pity the kitchen not part of the formal tour, but probably as that was run by the slaves it was not so relevant to Mary's history.3 block away there is her daughter's house, which is a remarkable contrast!

Interesting, a good chance to learn more about the Washington family. My particular tour guide could have been a little better ( it was like she had tried to memorized a script ).

Well done review of the home and Mary and her activities and personality by people dressed in period dress. Mary lived here after leaving Ferry Farm, George's boyhood home nearby

This is a beautifully maintained home of George Washington's Mother. The tour guides are knowledgeable and friendly. The garden is small but very nicely maintained. The gift shop was closed the day we were there so that was a disappointment. I am glad we went to visit this historical home still.
