La Plaza Mall is the premier shopping destination in the Rio Grande Valley...

The mall is always clean and very well appointed. Went in looking for jewelry and had no less than 5 places to shop. Found the perfect gift a a great price. Visited several other retailers and the selection is top notch. Overall very nice place to shop comfortably and also enjoy a good snack. Maps are conveniently located for ease of navigation .

So many of the Plaza Mall shops opened in the afternoon and evening of Thanksgiving Day and even Macy's stayed open all night for great discounts. Black Friday was busy but not as crowded because you had an extra day of shopping on Thursday.

Ate in the food court about four times before getting flights home (airport is right across the street). Mall is clean and has nice stores. I thought the shops might be the 2nd 3rd level (lesser) stores, but they had some great options. I think it is the mall for miles. Watch the parking lot as it will flood in heavy rains.

I go to the mall often but I think it could improve a lot. Its not very clean and its far too crowded. Also, I really don't like the fact that it closes at 9 on Saturdays. I think if they extended the hours to 10 on Saturdays, that would improve it a bit.

This mall has a variety of stores found in some of the larger malls. I was especially pleased to find Bath and Body Works and Victoria's Secret. However I was disappointed that there was no bookstore or card shop in the mall. The food court is ample for a mall of this size. I was there on a Friday and the mall was quite crowded. The majority of the shoppers appeared to be locals. People had told me that this mall is "huge" and quite frankly I was disappointed at the size. I have done better shopping in smaller malls in North Dakota. I would not hurry back to La Plaza.

La Plaza Mall has grown over the years and its slowly becoming more selective in the tenants they rent out to now a days. La Plaza use to be a mid price shopping destination but over the past 10 years or so, it has evolved into the higher end. It is true that most of high end stores and designer flag ship stores have been introduced are pricey. Other mid priced stores and food court restaurants have been forced out by the Simon corporation in which they've not renewed their lease thus forcing them to leave and replacing them with higher end stores. About the parking, it can get bad. There are current plans to build one or two parking garages. For sure one of them will be towards the south end of the mall near JC Pennys and Dillards.Additionally its been reported that they'll soon add a second floor expansion for more shopping space while others say it'll just be a single floor expansion. but who knows where. The only area for the mall to grow is by building up. If you visit during the Tax Free State holiday, Holidays or Weekends, it does get crowded. The reason La Plaza has brought in higher end tenants is due to the fact that they target their sales towards Mexican Nationals rather than to valley natives. Which would explain why you see plenty of hotels located within the vicinity and have no vacancies. This mall for the Simon corp is one of its highest performers in the 300 plus malls they operate throughout the US. before Foleys was replaced by Macy's, this location was its sales leader for the chain and some of the brand clothing they sold. My sister who lives in Dallas is a marketing major at Texas Women's Univ. who visits during the Holidays notes that what you see in Macy's or Dillards you won't find else where at the higher end malls in bigger cities in Texas, especially Dallas's own Galleria which is also managed by Simon corp as well. So you can't go wrong if you want to do big city shopping in a city the size of McAllen.

The mall is packed, selection scant and there is always a crowded feeling. Ordinarily that means the place is great but in this case it only means there is no competition so they don't have to provide a compelling visit. We only go when there is an immediate need and we could get something online or out of the valley

Plenty of stores to choose from, modern and clean, suitable for families. Nice food court. Only complaint is no playground.
