I was really excited about visiting the Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum, however, it was somewhat difficult to get to without a car.On my first try, I got very close to the museum, however, they decided to close about 30 minutes earlier because of the Christmas Holidays and so when I called to inform them that I was almost there, I was then told not to come over there and was offered to be picked up by one of their staff members and dropped off at the subway station and asked to come back at another day when they have more time for me and so I did what I was told. Then today being Sunday, December 28, 2014, I decided to give them another try and go back there again. I decided to take a different bus and train route and for some strange reason, my directions stated that I needed to walk for about 4 (four) miles from the metro train station in order to get to the museum and eventually, I made it there. When I had arrived, I was greeted by one of their employees who was currently starting a tour and was asked to join them. We started off by visiting the carriage house and then they took us inside of the house to show us the rest of the rooms, however, they split us into two different groups and so our group ended up receiving another tour guide which was fine because it was her first day and she had explained everything about the mansion and family to the Best of her ability. The rooms and the inside of the house were lovely, however, I was mostly disappointed due to the Fact that ALL of their furniture and furnishings were Not original, including what was inside of the carriage house and basically were made up of donations from other museums and/or private owners. It truthfully sucks, but that is the reality over there.Furthermore, when the tour was done, they Never really bothered to show us their outdoor gardens and fountain and have asked us to visit them on our own.I am Not trying to be difficult about my tour and experience, however, I must be truthful about it and this is My Review from Today's Tour!If you wish to visit this place, they will charge you $5.00 and so I guess You get what You Pay For!Thank you.

Today, my husband and I visited the Bartow-Pell mansion with the NYBG tour for members. It was such a lovely experience. The mansion is dressed in holiday grandeur. There were eight Christmas trees decorated with ornaments aligned with the theme of corresponding children's books. They were so beautiful and festive. The staff was very knowledgeable about the history of the mansion and the details of the families that lived there over the centuries. The grounds including the gardens and coach house were newly refurbished and exuded more information about the wonderful people who lived and celebrated the beauty of the Bronx.

I had the good fortune of visiting on an autumn day full of color and glory. The grounds are magnificent and the house itself was a beauty restored. Our guide, Ms. Lambdin was outstanding and even took us to the carriage house as part of the tour. It was the end of the 100th anniversary celebration. I definitely would recommend this to any Bronx visitor. It's hard to believe you're in the Bronx!

Great views and a sense of history. We got a sense of what it was like to live there. The staff is very knowledgeable about the house. We enjoyed the picnic we had near the fountain.

The Bartow-Pell Mansion Museum is a treat to the visitor! It is kept in meticulously accurate shape! The entry prices are very affordable. My young kids, ages 7 & 10, had a great time listening to the staff member as she explained the typical day in the life of the mid-19th century. We visited in early spring so the gardens were no in bloom, but I only imagine how they will look! The mansion is located down a pretty road fill with other beautiful homes. This is certainly a neat stop if you are visiting the New York area, and offers a respite from the busy metropolis.

This is both a New York City and National Landmark. They have guided and group tours, with educational tours throughout the year(self-guided tour, works best for me). We like to go and stroll the gardens and hike the trail. The Museum is only open to the public Wednesday,Saturday and Sunday 12-4PM. The house itself is Greek Revival. Its a great example of how the affluent lived in the 1840's. We were told that none of the original furniture remains in the house today.(I wonder what happen to it)- However, they have done a great job to restore it to how it might have appeared in the 1840. Classical furniture everywhere to complement the very stylish Greek Revival interiors. With fresh cut flower arrangements in all the rooms - I suppose taken from the yard garden. In its hay day the house have full water views from all the room of the Long Island Sound. Be sure to also visit the reopen and restore carriage house and stable, just to interesting to put in words- but worthy of a visit. For sure will return to see what it looks like at christmas time.

You should come here if you happen to be in the area. I was in the Bronx vicinity and wanted to kill a few hours and this was perfect. You can walk around the outside: there's a little garden, a little family grave plot, a small hiking trail that goes by the marshes/bay, and a wigwam. Cool, random stuff to look at. The tour of the mansion itself is interesting. There are 4-5 rooms on each of the 2 floors. The guide was knowledgeable and it was fun looking at 18th-19th century artifacts. Note--the furniture and things are not original to the house, but just period pieces. Come here if you want a mildly interesting thing to do for 1.5 hours!

My mom, son & I toured the Bartow-Pell mansion in late August. The entrance price was very reasonable - $11 for the 3 of us, with sr. & student discounts and parking was free. The mansion is beautifully set up in the areas visitors could enter. The guide was knowledgable in the areas that were her standard spiel, but not great at answering other questions. She was a bit terse and rather dismissive - but might have been due to others in the group asking the same questions that she had just gone over.

We visited this historic mansion around Christmastime. Each room is beautifully done up for the holiday season, with a different motif and Christmas tree. There's a shop where you can buy merchandise related to the history of the mansion. Overall, a very nice day trip.

Visit the mansion and take a tour . Walk in the gardens and take a hike down to the water . Afterwards you can drive over to City Island and eat seafood at any one of the many restaurants . Nice quiet easy going day . Call ahead for tour hours , grounds are free .

Go when you can take a guided tour. The history is interesting. The cemetery is worth a look and the gardens are beautiful. Combine it with a visit to nearby City Island to complete your day.

I love Bartow-Pell Mansion, but it was much better when you can actually walk around the rooms yourself without it being roped off. Also, many rooms that I'm sure a lot of people would find interesting, including myself, are off limits. Some of the rooms that are not part of the tour are the kitchen, the closets, and the nursery. I would love to see them and hope one day it will be opened for us to see.

My husband and I visited this treasure yesterday and had such a pleasant afternoon.....It remains in the setting it has always had and that helps bring you back in time.....It is beautifully cared for and loved. The Carriage house was perfect...even had a horse (life size recreation) in the stall and the stable boy! The house was surprisingly large....rooms well appointed and full of history. The tour took us thru so many of the rooms, each one a gem! We also got to visit the tiny family cemetery and that was a special place.....then our guide showed us the Indian portions of the land....as well as a garden.....all so beautiful....this is an ideal place for school groups......
