Tanglewood is magical. In Lenox, everything from the quaint shops to the delicious restaurants, to the beautiful natural setting heightens your experience. Tanglewood the music venue has tons to offer to summer visitors and you can enjoy your performances under the stars and surrounded by the lush greenery that makes this place glow! I highly recommend checking out a performance here!

After flying across country we found idyllic Lenox, Ma., and the beautiful grounds of Tanglewood. We were there to see James Taylor (who lives in closeby Pittsfield) perform on this gorgeous property in the Berkshires. It was the perfect experience of a small New England town and it's friendly people. Tanglewood itself has acres and acres of land, and a historic summer home to tour. Thankfully their generous donation is now available to all. Hint #1 park on one of the hills, facing downhill. If it rains, you might get stuck otherwise after the concert. Hint #2 Pay the extra money to sit in the "Shed". It's worth it to be so close and you'll stay dry if it rains.

You really can't rate a venue as unique as this one! My sister and I attended two concerts, one in the main shell, and one in another hall. The concerts are wonderful and the seating was fine for us. We chose to purchase tickets inside the shell, rather than chance the weather, but there were thousands of folks on blankets, in chairs, etc. on "the lawn." One couple in front of us were seated just behind a pillar and could not see the conductor. Eventually they obtained other seats. The parking is well organized, but plan to park very far from your venue. There are roving carts to help those who have trouble walking. Both concerts were easily heard and the seating comfortable enough. Box lunches were available but we ate beforehand.

I love sitting on the lawn... It is incredible but I have some advice to make your experience better1. If you are going to eat on the lawn, bring something you can wheel to carry all the food. 2. Bring a tarp so the wetness of the grass doesn't penetrate your blankets.3. Bring a blanket... Berkshire nights can become quite cool because of all the trees.4. Bring bug spray/ citronella candles/ the mosquitoes can be quite a distraction. For babies in strollers, bring bug netting.5. If you are going to use anything electronic, change the brightness of your screen.6. Bring a flashlight or headlamp to light the way after the concert.7. You can bring fold up chairs - the ones with a pouch on the back for blankets ect and with the backpack straps are nice8. Bring an umbrella but remember sitting on a lawn during a rainstorm is not a good idea.9. Cell phone reception is spotty sometimes. Texting is more successful. Once you arrive there are numbers on the shed. You can use those to be able to meet friends in a specific location.... Or bring balloons. :-) wear a bright hat.Enjoy your experience.

We especially love the sunday afternoon concerts where you can listen to the concert from the lawn. There are also last row sections that are very reasonably priced if I want to focus in on the concert. The atmosphere is just happy as everyone is so glad to be there.

Tanglewood completes the total personal experience. Of course the music is superb. More importantly, it is augmented by the sanctity of the venue. You can "hear" and feel the notes of music past from the masters of our time and their predecessors.

We saw the Boston Symphony perform Beethoven's Ninth in an open setting on a beautiful summer day. What could be better?

We enjoyed Rachmaninov at the concert. Bring your lag, wine and food. It was a real-life heaven. We brought little kids, but it was not a problem at all.

We were not able to see a show here but the grounds were open for just walking. Very pretty setting and peaceful. Would love to see a show here sometime.

Jeremy Denk playing the Goldberg's, and Emmanuel Ax playing the Emperor -- what more could one want?

Tanglewood is the most picturesque location on the east coast with it majestic evergreens to vistas of the surrounding lakes. The music enhances the setting and the setting enhances the music. We were there for a week in July which started with the opening night that included fireworks, James Taylor and wonderful guest performers and classical music. In the summer Lenox is the best place to be if you love to be surrounded by culture, music theatre and dance as well as wonderful restaurants.

Whether picnicking on the lawn or up close and personal if you've been fortunate enough to get good seats, Tanglewood is the standard by which summer concerts are measured. The talent is first rate and so is the setting.

For many years, my wife and I talked about going to Tanglewood for the summer BSO program. Well, we finally went this year, attending a wonderful Sunday afternoon program of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven. And we were so enthralled that we returned just two weeks later for a Saturday morning rehearsal of Leonard Bernstein's operetta "Candide." It's hard to say which we enjoyed more, but the truth is that the Saturday morning rehearsals are more than 50% less expensive than the programs and the available seats are plentiful.
