My daughter and I bought snowshoes when this crazy winter made it challenging to get outside and get some fresh air and exercise. Neither of us had ever used snowshoes and, when I found that the Weston Ski Track has lessons, we booked right away to learn the correct way to use our snowshoes. It was a perfect introduction to snowshoeing. The instructor showed us just what snowshoes can do (going up and running down steep inclines, avoiding pitfalls, and jumping down from ledges that are too high to step down from). Of course, the location is beautiful and we were able to go off track and into the woods near the river. After our lesson, we tackled the Needham town forest and spent 2 hours having a blast. Without the lesson, I don't think we would have been as adventurous.

I sprung for the "very good" rating but that is through the lens of a family experience. For me, as a solo skier it was somewhere between average and very good. I went on a Saturday for beginner ski lessons and the weather was beautiful and the place was mobbed. I used a discount voucher so for $29 I got beginner lessons, ski rental, and a trail pass. That was a good value. My class started at noon and I was told to arrive an hour early. That was too early as the rental folks seems to handle the crush of people efficiently. There were 10 adults of varying abilities and some, like me, who had had lessons before and some who had never been on skiis. I felt the instructor spent too much time on the perfect stride and almost none on stopping and downhill. Not sure if a newbie could safely ski a beginner trail after the 70-minute lesson. The place was well groomed but a bit chaotic. There is a lesson area and ski area across the street that is really a practice area. They also have snowshoe lessons. It is a golf course so you don't get that nature feeling but it is good exercise and there were loads of families skiing and snowshoeing with their children. It is very easy to find.

This is a great cross country ski course at the golf course in Weston. The tracks are groomed for traditional and skate skiing. It is not in "nature," but is family friendly. I use it for a great workout in winter.

Weston Ski is a magnet for local skiers. It's always active and has snow in great quantities.Enjoy the experience, and if you're child is in school look into to ski racing that takes place on weekday and sat. mornings. Usually through school programs.

Weston Ski track is one of the local places that makes snow to cross country ski on. So if it is cold and not much snow and you want to cross country ski both day and night, this is not a bad place to go. They groom, have rentals but you must pay to use the cross country track. If you we get natural snow and you have your own skis, there are some great golf courses nearby.

We headed out to the Weston Ski Track this winter, and were pleasantly surprised to find decently-groomed snow covering a golf course just 20 minutes outside of Boston. We couldn't make the time for a big adventure further north, so we figured a few hours would at least give us a taste of the sport. You can rent either touring or skate skis at a fairly reasonable price, and there are a few lessons each day. We tried to sign up for beginner lessons the day before, but they were all booked, so we figured everything out on our own. The spot where you leave your shoes is very open, so don't bring anything out of the car you can't carry yourself. The course is easy enough for beginners, and there were obviously plenty of people out learning. There were also plenty of skate skiers zooming by to keep you on your toes. I imagine it is a bit boring for more experienced skiers, but as a first timer, I felt safe and that everything we did was well within my abilities. Something to consider is that there is almost nothing to do there if you're not skiing. I noticed a few refreshments around back, but there's nowhere to sit, so we went out for a late lunch after our session. We will probably go back again when we want a good workout and only have a couple of hours of our winter weekend to spare.

When I first pulled into the parking space, I told my boyfriend we should leave immediately (but gave it a shot anyways). The place was insane. Maybe I´m spoiled by skiing in parks and municipal golf courses, but I´d rather not be skiing out in the open with very few trees and a million people around me. We did, however, find a spot on the edge of the golf course that was less crowded, but quite boring to explore. I know there aren´t many options for cross country skiing in the area, but if you can find somewhere else to ski, do it! At least don´t go on the weekend.

We love the Weston Ski Track, and our 5 yr old has been taking x-country ski lessons for the past few weeks. They rent skis, you have to buy a ski pass, and then enjoy the golf course (er, ski track). Obiously, it is mainly flat, but the have some undulations and the great towering "mt weston", maybe all of 35' high, but a nice challenge while on nordic skis. Prices for kids lessons include the rental. They also have night skiing. And whenever it's cold enough (not enough recently), they make snow - so don't assume you can't go when there is no snow around. It's a great winter active in the metro-west!

If you are searching for a family fun day with groomed trails and definite scenery, then this is the place. the spot sits on a public park and recreation golf course and has loads of winding trails through scenic tree lined areas. It runs along the Charles River and is close to the Mass turnpike and major raods off route 95. The trails are fully groomed and there is night skiing as well. The best part is that there are rentals on site of both touring skis and speed skis and even handicap accessible skis. The staff is really helpful and friendly and assist putting skis on and with guiding and there are even lessons. The prices are moderate, for two adults with rentals it was fifty seven dollars for the day. the best part is there are easy and difficult trails and it is great for the kids!
