Be prepared to climb, the temple is on top of a hill, but the effort is very rewarding. The temple itself isnot so beautiful, but it is very charming, with people reading/singing in a continuous mode. Outside of the temple there are so many monkeys and we could spend hours playing with them. The view is amazing, you can see rice fields, nice rock formations and the river.

Its quiet a walk up to the temple, but its beautiful...once you reach up you can sit on the stones at the ledge just enjoy the beautiful sunset...watch people playing music and a silent calm

We climbed monkey temple (before the Holi celebrations started) and it is pretty easy really, maybe 25 minutes up steps to the top. Take some water and snacks, there is a little shop at the bottom with everything you'll need. We got there just before sunrise and the views were spectacular. There were around 20 monkeys who were not in the least bit intimidated by humans but definitely weren't anything to be scared of, they basically ignored us. Great fun to watch them play and eat bananas in such a magical setting up close. We were brought out chai from the temple which was unexpected and a nice touch. Hampi is one of the most photogenic areas I have been to in India and the views from Monkey Temple should not be missed.

Listening to chanting from the Temple as dawn arrived. Watching the antics of the mischievous monkeys. Incredible views. The cool morning air, before the heat of the day.

We were not aware of the 675 steps to the top, but to our delight it was worth the climb. We got water and bananas from the shops at the start. Took our time and rested while enjoying the ever increasingly spectacular views and chatting with people from all over the world. We took a coracle boat ride down the river to get there. (expensive but well worth it - 2000 rupees for two of us) The boat leaves from behind where the police station is. We met a rickshaw which took us to the foot of the temple. On the climb up there is a place where the steps go under large boulders balanced on top of others to form a short tunnel. At the top you will know you have reached the Monkey Temple by the wonderful sight of the temple covered in monkeys. The monkeys will take bananas offered to them and play around. There is a calm and spiritual feel at the top and we were very happy we did it and would recommend it to others, even if just for the views.

Climib up 600 odd steps to reach the top of the hill which is believed to be the birth place of Hindu deity Hanuman. Play with monkeys, climb over the rocks, sit down and view the Tungabhadra valley below... great sunsets! Great opportunity for photography on the rocks in the orange light of the setting sun!

Its a 572 steps climb to reach the temple. At the top is a small hanuman temple. You can have a great view from the top. There are rock hills for as far as you can see. The priest offered us tea and snacks in the evening. The place gets crowded during sunset as many people come here to take photos of sunset.

its a bit crowded mostly with schoolchildren who are very friendly and ask you all the time "how are you?""where are you from" and want there pictures taken with you. Our granddaughter aged 3 was in constant demand . Not sure I liked the Elephant being used to beg money from visitors.

In terms of temple it is a regular temple but the view from there is just spectacular. One can see entire Hampi from there with boulder hill all around and Virupaksha temple in between. If you get a chance stay there for sun set. The climb to Monkey temple is totally worth it.

Carry a bottle of water as it's bit of a climb. Steps are bigger in height than normal, which exhaust you. You can climb, relax, then continue rather than just exerting yourself. There is Hanuman temple on the top of the hill; said to be birth place(Kishkinda) of Lord Hanuman. Scenic view once you reach there. Worth the climb - cool breeze, can see ruins of Hampi kingdom, rock hills, paddy fields and its quite serene. You feel at peace.

One needs to climb almost 500 steps and few boulder and rocks to reach the temple and also the rocks and boulders from where you get to see the sunset view. There are a lot of monkeys so one must be careful while climbing. Do not feed the monkeys because they can suddenly become too nagging once they see food.

We did not bother to count them but we were told there are 600 steps to the top. The steps can be done in 15 minutes and it is well worth the effort. Great place to view the sunset.
