The gardens cover a large area, the lower grounds have the rose garden lake conservatories and tea room, plus many fine plants and statues. On the upper level which is a steep climb is an aviary, not a lot of birds in residence when we visited but interesting. Lots of wooded walks and huge trees. A lovely place to visit

These gardens are amazing. They have all types of plants from around the world and activities for the whole family. The cafe does very nice coffee.

A welcome respite from the bustle of the city. Lovely walking paths including one that climbs quite steeply up to the aviary. It is well laid out and diverse in flora and fauna. A credit to the city

Had a lovely walk around the gardens although didn't spend enough time here. Need to allow time to be able to wander to fully appreciate the variety of plants in the gardens. Lovely little cafe, very reasonably priced. Entrance is free. Gardens are very well maintained.

Very much enjoyed the gardens. Happened upon on a Sunday afternoon with the local orchestra playing the small stage. It was very good free entertainment. The gardens were very diverse. The rock garden area held my attention the most and reminded me of the mountains of North Carolina . Also. If you like to feed ducks, here is the place. The kids and families that bought the duck food, quickly were surrounded by mallards, quiet a sight !

During a brief visit to Dunedin, we decided to stretch our legs and take a stroll around the Botanic Gardens, which were a short walk from our accommodation at Allan Court Motel on George Street. Being Australian, I just loved seeing the immaculate green lawns, the flower beds full of colourful flowers, and the very English-looking trees, such a pleasant change from gumtrees!!! The gardens seemed very popular with families and other visitors making good use of them.

I pulled into this park midday on a Monday. It was fairly empty. The parking was free and there was a restroom near the car park.I was impressed by the size and variety of plant life in this park. What a gem! I walked around for a bit enjoying the Cedars of Lebanon, rose garden, herb garden, ample benches and more. Such a great place and well kept. My only regret is that it started to rain towards the end of my time there, so I couldn't find a bench to lose time on as I'd wished. It would have been nice. The park is large enough that you could easily spend hours here without feeling like you are seeing the same thing over and over. Everyone should spend some time here if in Dunedin, especially if you are needing a little time to de-stress and relax. This will be good for what ails you!

Easy to park free nearby and a pleasant strolling area. The hot houses were impressive and it's a very good place to relax on a warm summer's day. After visiting Hamilton's Botanic Gardens though, this one pales into insignificance.

One feature of Dunedin that we have noticed is the high quality of it's public cultural attractions and the Botanic Gardens are no exception to this standard. They are a really fine advertisement for the city and like many of the other assets are free to enter. Laid out in two sections, a smaller formal garden on flat ground with a duck pond and fine Edwardian glasshouse. Next door is the attractively designed cafe. The plants displayed are all clearly labelled and a free map of the site is available from a number of self service points. Crossing over the stream takes you into the much larger section laid out on a fairly steep hillside. Here there are a number of gardens organised on a geographical theme, Mediterranean, South African etc. There is also an interesting aviary and arboretum. If you are interested in the world of plants and gardens then this is a must see attraction and as said earlier it is entirely free!

Did this for my wife,as she loves to garden. She indulged me on airplane trip to Milford Sound, etc. Turned out to be very nice 1/2 day, some amazing plants and views. Well worth few hours, but climb back up to top of garden not for unfit person.

It includes an aviary with lots of parrots as well as interesting gardens. Would be particularly wonderful in spring when rhododendrons bloom. Also has a small cafe.

If you like gardens and a peaceful time this Botanic garden is lovely. Very hilly but lots of wildlife and relaxing atmosphere. A must see in Dunedin

We really enjoyed this botanical garden because of the variety of trees and flowers organised by regions of the world. The staff were really helpful and gave very useful information and commentaries. Nice view over the city. A quiet and great hidden gem in the Dunedin area. We loved it.

Well maintained and lovely to walk though and sit under the trees and feeding the ducks. Well worth a visit
