The lookout tat Arve Falls ws fantastic..easy enough for our family of four to do..the walk was exhilirating! It is a perfect example of the beauty of nature- untouched, pristine and awe inspiring! It will take a while so make sure you got during the cooler months which actually is like saying throughout the year as Tassie is often all round cool! The temperate flora and some fauna we saw along the way were magnificent! You won't be sorry!

This is a wild and beautiful NP. During our visit it rained continually which did effect the walking we planned to do. Tracks are well defined, lots of information is provided and the balance between being a wilderness and people friendly seemed about right. Access is by unsealed road in good condition.

Overnight hike up to Hartz peak and some lovely glacial lakes. Stunning views over Tasmania´s wilderness and numerous mountain ranges.

It's just a Beautiful & Peaceful Mountail to Walk through the Snowy & Cladded Tracks to Crystal Clear Lakes & Water Fall & to the Peek!. Be Prepared for a Long Treck to the Peek, you would be Wise to take some Snacks at least.

A fabulous way to see some of Tasmania's wilderness. There are marshy areas covered in boardwalks that are not hard to traverse... We have taken over 70s up to Lake Esperence (which is the most tranquil lake I have ever visited) and, despite their hip and knee replacements, they made it with only a moderate amount of exertion. The track to the top of Hartz peak is a little harder though... rocky and steep... but the view is most definitely worth it.You need to purchase a parks pass to go up here and, sometimes, the honesty box is empty so you are best purchasing your pass in Geeveston before you go. We have done Tahune airwalk and the walk to Lake Esperance (with the over 70s) in a single day before, so don't be put off by the distance to travel.

The national parks in Tasmania are very well maintained despite major cutback they still manage to make them a worthwhile experience for the visitors. We went there the day after I arrived from UK so only did a gentle walk from the parking area to Lake Osborne. We stopped to each our sandwiches sitting on the rocks overlooking the lake. So peaceful and if you are patient you will see some wildlife but look carefully! The path is partially elevated off the marshy ground with a boardwalk. It does not take long to get there although it is an uphill route there albeit not steep. There are several other walks in the area and a good visitor information panel. The toilet is modern but not a flushing type but very clean and not smelly! We always go to some area in the Hartz Mountains on every visit as it is an easy drive from Hobart. Depending on the time of year wrap up warm if the wind is blowing as it can be icy cold.

This is a stunning National Park - and if you are the active type, there are lots of fantastic walks to do. My only advice is this:Regardless of the current temperature, if you go on a walk, make sure you take some water, a jacket, gloves etc. Reason: the weather can change VERY quickly when you are on top of the Hartz Mountains. You can go up the mountain in a t-shirt, and need a jacket and scarf 10 min later. Also take a snack - there isn't a lot to buy where you finish a 2 hr walk and are starving! ;-)Enjoy!

This is one of the most beautiful places I know, it's serene and there is plenty to do from short to long walks and the wildflowers are always a blessing. Not too hard walking it in the snow, I have been there in all seasons and weather and it is always a pleasure - having a lot of boardwalk helps. I just wish there was more walks - have been to Hartz Lake and beyond. I thought when the shelter was erected it would spoil the place, but it doesn't, the lakes are a peaceful place to sit and ponder or rest on return from a larger walk like Mt Snowy.

It had snowed when we got there and we were the first to walk in. Was great to see some footprints from wallabies and even from a wombat! The facilities are very good. The shelter at the start of the walk gave us a place to have our lunch when we got back. A bit of a long drive from Hobart (about one and a half hours) but well worth it. Don't forget to visit the falls too. Only a 10 minute walk in from the road.

Close to Hobart, nice scenery - very Tassie. Easy walking up to HArtz Peak on well graded track. Track is flattish until Ladies Tarn and then is steeper as it climbs to Hartz peak. In nice weather, the views of SW Tassie from the peak are amazing. In less nice weather, it is still a nice climb and views of plants. I have done it in the snow also - sensational (but can get windy and cold so take warm things). In October, the wildflowers are lovely. Actually - there is always something nice blooming.Tip - stop at Geeveston on the way and see the platypus in the river under the bridge.

Unfortunately there was a lot of fog when my partner and I went to the top and we couldn't see any views but it was an interesting hike up the rocky mountain the only negative was that I would have liked to have seen more chicken wire on the board walks it had some in places but not all and the parts that didn't have any were very slippery. Overall it was a good experience.

A stunning drive from Hobart leads to Hartz Mountain. The walks are a varied mix of very easy boardwalks to steep rocky climbs - the summit only accessible for the fit and active. Best seen in clear weather, If you are into flora - amazing diversity including cushion plants.

For lovely rainforest and a birds eye view of rivers and forest, the Sky Walk is a must visit. We also enjoyed the Swinging Bridges walk, which follows a very beautiful winding track upstream alongside the river, and then crosses the two Rivers just beyond the spot where they join. The bridges have a nice bit of bounce and offer the sounds and views of rushing waters. I'd recommend that when you have crossed the second bridge, you return the way you came. That way you get four bridge crossings (to please your inner child) and you get to see the the beautiful first half of the walk from the opposite direction (i.e. stay on the Air Walk side of the river). Don't bother about completing the circuit on the opposite side of the river, as it is a wide access track and comparatively charm free. There's a good development at the car park with outdoor areas in which to picnic or have coffees and stacks purchasable from the tourist centre. However, a black mark goes to the women in the centre who would not give us a coffee twenty five minutes before closing time, and who were ferociously mopping floors and putting chairs on tables! When we queried this we were told that 'we will never get home if we don't start cleaning up now'. Here's a suggestion to the staff: If the place is advertised to close at five, you should serve right up until five, because people organise themselves to be there when it is supposedly open. Clean up at closing time or afterwards. If you need to start cleaning up at 4.30, then advertise that the kiosk closes at 4.30. Tasmanian Summer evenings are long and there is is still plenty of walking time after 5, so it was disappointing not to be able to get refreshments as we had planned.

The Hartz Mountains are truly spectacular and accessible. The alpine tundra is such a delight and changes colour throughout the day. Be prepared for gusty winds and changeable weather but the visit is well worth it and should not be missed! (Don't forget to get a National Parks pass before you visit)

Incredible short walk if you want to see some of Tasmanias pristine areas. Very similar to Cradle Mountain but only took a couple of hours and No steep hills.
