I visited Venezuela touring around by myself in Venezuela, visiting town of Coro and the Medanos dunes National Park on the Caribbean coast in Falcon state in the far NW, Caracas and backpacked in the Avila Massif as far as Pico de Naiguata at over 9000', Merida in the western part with the 3 station French built cablecar up to the shoulder of Venezuela's highest peak Pico de Bolivar at over 16,000' and down for the night on donkeyback to the drier Los Nevados village. Of course I took an overnight bus to Santa Elena with a tour group up Roraima. The accommodations was in a cave called The Hotel. Here there was no privy which resulted in the disagreeable smell from having to relieve oneself in the bushes. How is it today? The summit of Roraima is a fantastic botanical world until itself if you can stand the lack of facilities at "The Hotel". Still Roraima is worth it and the porters from the village in Gran Sabana are very dedicated to their task.

It is absolutely not a destination you should venture without local support! Angel-Eco a Tours provided us an amazing itinerary at short notice, ensured our safety & never let us down. For weeks we traversed this absolutely amazing country to see the worlds' tallest waterfall: Angel Falls, made famous by Jimmie Angel an outrageous adventurer of another time in history, the Pemon villages of the Gran Sabana, UREYAN & KAVAC, where Jimmie Angel's adventure began, we flew there by charter aircraft over Angel Falls mesmerised by the extreme thrill of our aerial view of this spectacular waterfall, landing right on the doorstep of the UREYAN Village Resort to the labyrinth of the Amazonian jungle staying at the ORINOCO QUEEN in the Delta, your very own Gilligan's Island to a remote sand cay at Cayo Fabian in Venezuelans' Caribbean Islands of Les Roques - where sharing your piece of beach is optional.Venezuela is a country with a poor reputation but very do able with the support from Angel-Eco tours, so if you want to live the dream, here's your challenge: pack your sense of adventure & come visit Venezuela soon!

We spent a little over a week in the Gran Sabama, a wilderness area in Venezuela. The landscapes are stunning, and all of the locals are really really friendly and thrilled that tourists are still coming to visit. There are a number of nice waterfalls to see (not as big as Angel Falls, but well worth seeing anyway). We traveled by camping car, but this can be done by tours as well. Doing it yourself is cheap (i.e. no fees to most waterfalls), exciting and magical.

5 days with a professional guide was just right. Went to really lovely places. A very special Venezuelan experience though can be rough occasionally as infrastructure for tourists are really basic but that is part of the beauty and the secret of keeping crowds away. One advice: always use insect repellent and keep it at hand as mosquitos ( puri puri) can cause really nasty allergic reactions.

there is nothing to dislike, you take everything as given as it happens and with the understanding that you are not home shopping at Walmart....the grandness of the land, the amount of rivers and waterfalls makes you wonder, how can this be?...the food is good and the accommodations in most places are comfortable and even picturesque....I loved it....the monastery, the remote towns and the beauty....you forget there is a world at war

There really are few places in the world that compare with this in terms of diversity, beauty and magnitude. Most people come to see the tepuis and Angel Falls and it seems almost cruel that there are so many other water falls over 100 metres in height which would be much valued in other parts of the world but here they are almost disregarded being mere minnows. Everywhere that you look is simply stunning and you will never put your camera down for long. Make sure you have a waterproof bag for it though as there are some rapids on the river! The whole tourist set up is quite slick and yet it retains a nice atmosphere and is not yet overly visited. The accomodation, food, transport and personnel are all excellent. the costs are good value as well so long as you understand the black market exchange rates and are not unfortunate enough to get scammed.

We booked a 3 day, 2 night package with Backpacker tours, transport by Jeep. Everything was fantastic- great guide (English/Spanish/German speaking), good food, and a customized tour thanks to Eric (owner). The area is beautiful, with rolling plains, waterfalls (cold but not too cold to swim), and lovely people.I would love to go back and do the Roraima trek (6 days, people rave about it).It is a bit of a trek to get to though- we flew from Caracas to Puerto Ordaz, then caught an overnight bus to Santa Elena, where we started the tour in the morning. If you are not fluent in Spanish you should give yourself more buffer time- getting a bus to Santa Elena was tricky because they only sell tickets the day of the journey, and you have to buy in person at the station. Get to the Puerto Ordaz terminal (NOT San Felix terminal) early the morning of travel. We were sold fake tickets and had to argue our way into a bus by talking to the company boss, as well as the terminal manager. And we had a local friend, a lawyer, who did all the talking. We would have been in a tricky situation otherwise! But don't let this deter you- just remember, this is Venezuela, something will probably go wrong- and go enjoy this lovely region of the country.Don't forget long sleeved clothing and lots of repellent- The sandflies are unrelenting!

to take a nice break and rest, come to visit gran sabana. I recently visited it with my husband after at least 15 years. Now you have more places where to sleep and visit, people are friendly, you can amaze about food in some small restaurants without any name. But you can see nice birds and ant eatter. You can see from many places the famous Roraima and Kukenan.

Amazing experience of red water lagoons, beautiful river, unusual mountains all around! Its worth doing a trek to the Angel falls from Canaima which includes 5 hours long motorized canoe rides, jungle hikes, swims in private water falls!

Thousand miles square green nature, 3.000.000 years old table mountains, lost of rivers, swimming pools and water falls. If you visit Angel Fall you should visit Gran Sabana too.

This part of the National Park - like all others - is untouched. Only native people are permitted to live here and so it feels like you are stepping back in time. The air is dry and the perfect temperature. Many of the locals sleep outside. You can forever without too much effort. Very flat.

I am not physically fit but being able to do what I had to do (mostly hiking in the rough rainforest) gave me some inspiration to do more in the future. It was so hot and humid for me.

I live not so far from La Gran Sabana, The great Savannah and I go every chance I get and will never get tired of it. It is like being in another world and there are so many places to go, cascades, indios villages, boat rides. Highly recommended
