Pecs cathedral is the landmark of the city, and in these days the renovation is finished. You can climb he south-eastern tower, 266 steps up & down. On a sunny day you can sit down onto the south faced steps of the cathedtral, and make a short stop while sightseeing.

The building is so simple and yet so beautiful. It has the most beautiful gate made out of iron leaves, and the entrance is imposing and beautiful. We were there on a Sunday, and the church was full. Amazing indeed!

The interior was beautiful with lovely frescoes, but not much stained glass. Unfortunately there was scaffold covering one of the towers.

If you will buy a postcard from Pecs, it is most likely that this Cathedral will be on it.We (a couple) had a chance to visit it during day and evening.Even that 7pm doesn't sound late, it was quite lonely and dark during this time near Pecs Cathedral because of its location away from the center. There were some lights on the Cathedral, but it didn't make the weather. In contrast, it made it even scarier with its rare yellow lights on the balconies of the Cathedral, which was standing among lonely trees without leafs in the darkness.During day, the outside picture of this Cathedral was less scary. The place was much more populated with people going to the Sunday's church service. We also had a chance to sneak into it for couple of minutes through the gate doors decorated as grapes. The building inside looked very well-dressed with many worshipers and priests walking among them. But because the whole mood of inside of the church accompanied by church chorus started looking even creepier than the last night outside, we left the place.Visit it if you are brave enough!

A large, imposing structure that shimmers with beauty inside when you turn on the lights. Excellent for going in and getting a respite from the outside. Enjoy the peace.

A must see in Pecs. If you wait for a tour to come through they turn on the lights and you an see thoe church much better. Also, for tours they play the huge organ...while this is a digital reprocduced sound the quality is excellent....unless you are a professional organist you woul not know the difference.

This was a lovely experience. We followed Rick Steves' guide book for a walking tour of the space outside the Cathedral, the entrace gates and then continuing inside. The organ had a 6 minute concert that was computerized and played at regular intervals. It was quite nice to hear that instrument. The crypt is OK, but nothing spectacular. However the Cathedral is spectacular. A number of tour came in at 10:00 am and the staff turned on all the lights. WOW! Every inch has been covered with a base pain and then decorated. It looks like wallpaper.Highly recommend!

We were a bit unsure of going inside the cathedral but as it was free we dropped in for look and didn't regret it. The decorations are very beautiful. There is also a very impressive organ which struck up with a rendition of Ave Maria. The information however is limited so if you are interested in the history then it is advisable to join a tour of some kind.

Cathedral dates back from 11th centurz, but it was rebuilt several times. Before you enter the courtyard you will pass small bridge over the Roma ruins, but be carefull on rainy days, it is slippery. When you pass the bridge and the gate, Cathedral i on the right. Left from the Cathedral is Bishop's Palace. Behind it you will find small park Barbican and there you will find old city walls with the tower. If you buy the ticket, you can visit Cathedral, the Dom Museum and the Bishop's Wine Cellar where you can drink a glass of wine.

Of all my memories of the Cathedral - the four towers, the roof, the extraordinary gate, the gorgeous coffered ceiling, the lower level with the wooden carvings on the steps down - the one I treasure most is of the magic moment when the organ suddenly started playing, and even a group of schoolchildren were quiet.

We spent 3 night in pecs and visiting the cathedral and it's surrounding sites was the best part of our trip. The entire area screams out history. There is a number of locations you ought to visit but the centuries old cathedral is sure to catch your attention. Try to take a padlock with you along with your loved one, I promise there is a nice surprise there for you. It took us almost 6 hours to take a good stroll around but yet it feels like we couldn't see it all. Five star city with no second thoughts.

This Cathedral is somewhat different than other. Yes pews Altar etc But the wall of this Cathedral and the pillars are somewhat unique. It looks like that the Cathedral got a wallpaper all over it but I could not figure out if it wallpaper or hand painted pattern. The pillars had gold and white and looking like brick on top of one another.I sat down and admired the pattern of the walls and the pillar.I walked under the ground and more lovely pattern of painting on the ceiling.Small donation is asked upon the way out entrance. There are cleaning work outside the exterior building at the moment. You cannot see the Cathedral from the town but walk behind it you will see it. The early Christian cemetery are nearby.

The cathedral dominates one end of town, and it's definitely worth a visit. Don't miss the crypt, which holds interesting mosaics and other religious artistry.
