We had a very nice day trip to this place and we loved walking around in the lower city. We made our climb to the top to visit to old upper part we were disappointed that it was closed for maintenance. Nevertheless we had a nice day.

It is hard to contain the simple joy of high expectations being exceeded. A place to simply get lost in amongst the alleys and laneways imagining the warriors and their families life over 100 years of Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian and Ottoman regimes. A swim below the ramparts in warm October waters viewing more of the town cascading down from the battlement heights. Fair value eating options with honest Greek food. We love places like Dubrovnik, Prague, Plovdiv and Monemvasia measures up well on a small scale.

Initially I refused to go in here as from the outside it looks like a hi purge hot ruin. Inside it's beautiful and full of quaint, slightly overpriced bars and restaurants, but it must be very expensive to run an establishment here. Really nice trip and day out. Loved the wee church.

What a wonderfully preserved city within a castle of the Byzantine times that later became part of the Vevetians. Very quaint a place in time, the cobble stone streets the small byways and the ramparts. Points of interest the Church of ecumenos and beautiful restaurants and hotels within.A must is hike to the upper city with wonderful views and the church of saint Sofia a small replica of the one at Constantinople.

Having read about the history of this once thriving city, I was surprised to see how few objects are on display. I had imagined a wealth of archaeological material would be available with which to illustrate and bring to life Monemvasia's multicultural past. Having said this, the objects that have been chosen are beautifully presented and well described - the fragments of ceramic particularly so. The building and lighting design are a big part of what makes the museum special. Being a very keen museum goer, I just wanted more!!!

The view and the location of the houses at the edge of the cliff are pitoresque. Without the Agia Sofia Church the upper part of Monemvasia is average. The Church itself makes the site very worthful to see

Tiny museum in former mosque, but with artifacts very well labelled and laid out. Excellent guide book available (in multiple languages).

It is the smallest of museums. It is beautfully laid out and is a charming space. It has a handful of objects on display. One or two of them are really quite special...look out for the siphon. But they do not really help tell the story of Monemvasia. Strangely the actual museum building is more informative about the history of the town, having been variously church, prison, mosque, coffee shop etc! Also look out for its cistern.

Now a charge (€2) but a good place to start the journey into the rock. Well woth a visit as it offers a perspective to the history of the place.

Building is delightful and interior very well done, trouble is the exhibits are not all that important. Lovely staff though.

Small but important collection in the former mosk of archaeological findings right in the center of Monemvasia.

We visited in May 2012. Everything that is said here we found to be the case. Do ask the (enthusiastic) curator abut the building itself as well as the exhibits and look out for the acoustic holes in the walls.

This is a beautiful little building with its own history housing artefacts from monemvasia. It it tastefully done and curated simply, informative and much much better than the epidaurus little museum! it has a roomfull of history but was a pleasure to see it done nicely. The staff was very friendly and well informed.

Μια μικρή αίθουσα με διάφορους αρχαιολογικούς θυσαυρούς από την Μονεμβασιά. Ένα ταξίδι στο παρελθόν.Ίσως όμως το εισιτήριο θα έπρεπε να είχε 1€ και αυτό συμβολικό και όχι 2€, δεδομένου ότι το Μουσείο της Ακρόπολης έχει 5€ είσοδο.
