Chrissopigi is probably the most famous church in Sifnos. It is a church build on a small island rock, and you need to cross the small bridge to arrive. On the other side of the church, there are some smooth rocks where you can put your towel and enjoy some peaceful moments. Close to Chrissopigi is 1 or are 2 restaurants on the left side where you can eat. Each year they celebrate in a fantastic way where the priest comes from a boat and lots of boats gather and horns. Don't remember the exact date but you can search for it on the web.If you visit Sifnos it is a MUST to see place and from where you can enjoy is a wonderful sunset.Enjoy everyone!

That small church is dedicated to Virgin Mary. A small, wonderful, handmade building, a real masterpeace of simlicity is waiting people to pray. The small church is total white and the whole place extremly clean. It is built on a rocky place and the sea arround is deep blue and crystal clear. It is the most known landmark of Sifnos. Very close to the church there is a sandy beach with trees and many facilities. Worth a visit. Unforgetable place epecially under full moon or during the dawn.

At Chrysopigi you can jump straight off the rocks near the stunning monastery into deep, crystal clear blue water or you can swim in the lovely sheltered bay beach. It's a short walk from Faros, which also has exceptional beaches.

Get yourself in picturesque scenery. A beautiful church in the sea so white and clean that you cannot believe it. THE place to take your photos to remember..

Came here about twenty years ago and ten years ago. Barely changed in that time. A beautiful setting. We walked twenty five minutes from Faros past the main beaches and settled on the small beach just after the church further along the coast.

Definitely worth visiting. Magnificent location, also ideal for swimming, either next to the rocks, or at the neighboring Apokofto beach. The Apokofto Tavern (second one as you hit the beach) had the best food on the island.

Landscape is beautiful on both sides of the little rocky peninsula. Would be better for us if we could visit the church, doors were locked when we were there...The cats were lazy but friendly...The sea may get dirty depending on the wind...It is rocky, so be prepared.

We were there for the actual Panagia in May 2014. It happens each year on Accension day. A very unique experience where you join locals from all over Sifnos in a huge celebration. Senior clerics from Athens arrive by ferry accompanied by a Coast Guard cutter and many boats. They take a tender to the church with an icon. After a long chanted mass there is free food and music. We left to go back to Kamares but were told the party lasts all night. Worth planning your trip around.

A beautiful church unique in the seafront with path to the beach, take lots of pictures with the white background church.

A very special promontory with a church dating to the 17th c. and a legend that goes back to the dreadful centuries of piracy, plunder and hardship while Greece lived under venetian, ottoman and even byzantine rule. It is a beautiful spot for eastern perspectives toward Paros and the Aegean but also for the nearby coves of Faros and Fassolou. The bus route to Platys Yalos leaves the visitor at the Chryssopigi spot on the asphalt road and there's a short path down to the church and the lovely beach of Apokofto. After visiting the church, the leisurely visit might include lunch or an early sundown dinner at one of the two restaurants on the cove: The "Chryssopigi "--a very good one; and "Apokofto", a wonderful spot with local offerings as well, though not always the best. Still, both locations are a small part of paradise.

Chrissopigi monastery and church and the view of them is another iconic symbol of the Greek islands that has to be visited. Inside the church look for the boat hanging form the ceiling - it is quite incongruous. Sadly, on our last visit there was a caretaker inside. This was the first time we had seen the place 'guarded'.A must, if you can, is to see the delivery of the sacred icon from Kamares to Panagai Chrissopigi which takes places only once a year in late June or early July. Two years ago we say the Speedrunner come into Apokofto Bay with the icon. After lots of blowing of ships' horns and an encirclement of fishing boats, the back was lowered and the icon was handed over to a priest on a fishing boat and taken with much ceremony again to the rock pier by the monastery where many priests and dignitaries were waiting. The icon was then carried to the church for a ceremony. Special buses were laid on from Appollonia right to the monastery and back. It was fabulous to witness this spectacle. I have lots of photos but do not have them with me now in Greece. See, however, http://www.panoramio.com/photo_explorer#view=photo&position=23&with_photo_id=37730644&order=date_desc&user=4631631As others have said there is a very good taverna on the beach and a nice 30 minute walk to Faros for the bus back.
