Recently went to this zoo whilst visiting a friend in Dusseldorf. We spent hours hours here and was so surprised by the amount of animals in the zoo! It was great to see it in such a natural environment and not so man-made looking like many of the zoos in the UK. Great zoo and well worth a visit, if i ever go back to that area I will no doubt be going again!! Cheap entry costs too and even student discount.

We go to this Zoo every time we are in Germany. Our trip starts in Vohwinkel and we take the Suspension Railway to the Zoo Station. A short walk to the Zoo is lined by old Villas and beautiful gardens. The Zoo is build along the hill side so there is a lot of walking up and down hill. The Zoo is almost jungle like and the exhibits well taken care of. There is a playground for kids. I have pictures of myself going down this long skinny slide when I was about 3 and now I have picture of my daughter going down the same. I can't believe it's still there. On the weekends an orchestra plays classical music while visitors can take a rest on the lawn in from of the stage.

You'll need to be quite fit if you want to see the lions and tigers at the top of the steep slope that rises from the banks of the Wupper river, but once you you have reached the bush and forest habitat of the tigers and the vast grassy steppe where the lions roam, you will for sur think that it was worth the effort. On top of that kids and adults alike will enjoy the glass-tunnel walkway under the sea-lions' basin, the skywalk above and across the monkeys' habitat including an island in a lake and the large group of elephants in their hillside grassland environment. There are kiosks all over the zoo so that the kids don't have to wait for softdrinks, chips and ice-creams till the end of their visit, but it is a true shame that the formerly majestic building of the Zoo Restaurant and Garden Terrace has been abandoned.

Super clean, spacious, well contained animals! Dobring your picnic because german junkfood is really junk! And expensieve junk at that! Restaurant was closed down.

The lush green Wuppertal Zoo is very easy to reach with public train transport. Once inside the Zoo offers some modern animal attractions such as the elephants' housing. Pushing a pram around can be a bit daunting as the Zoo is hilly. The kids play area draws the families wanting to take time out. Looking forward to a better dining possibility...

The zoo was really nice, with a lot of different kind of animals. Some of the pens were quite big and offered wide spaces for animals, but some others were a bit too small, I think. There were some big animals in the zoo, like lions, tigers, elephants and polar bears... Lions had a really huge area for them, but two polar bears shared a rather small compound. If you like zoos, you probably like this one too, but on the other hand it didn't offer anything spectacular that you wouldn't have seen before in some other zoos...

I went to this zoo several times since I'm born in that town. Sure, its no comparison to the large, famous zoos all over the world. But its a unique one. Its set within a wonderful landscape, there are trees dozens or hundreds of years old, many different single paths you can walk by yourself and the whole design is very similar to a city park. There is so much nature over there. Some compounds are old and need to be restored, but many already got so nowadays there are beautiful ones like the lions who got a really huge compound.By the way, the whole zoo is set in a very old fashioned area with a lot of buildings from the 19th century. If you have time you should walk around a bit.

I took my granddaughter here on a recent trip from Australia.I forgot how hilly Wuppertal is, so think twice before getting a wagon to pull kids along. We loved it we actually went twice. They even showcase a green frog from far North Queensland in their reptile area. The restaurant is not too exciting and it needs a big facelift.

You can get very easily to Wuppertal Zoo, just 2 minutes form the a 46 and the Schwebebahn has a station pretty close by. Parking spaces are large and free of charge. The whole venue is a bit outdated the chrame is a bit 70s but for only 12 € you get a very large area which in itself is beautiful with the trees, lakes and flowers all aorund (there is some wildlife in the zo running free) which makes for a very nice walk. Beware it is very hilly but all areas can be accessed without stairs. Some animals have really big areas (lions, elephants) and just as I am writing this, there are two very cute baby elephants at the zoo. Feeding times are posted. What I did like most is that the african penguins have a very nicely built area, with huge glass walls so you can watch them swim. All in all it makes for a nice 2-3 hour walk with nice animals.

This zoo is really worthwile to visit. Although it s not too modern and a very big restaurant is closed there is a lot op space in the zoo. A bit hilly, so you are tired after walking there for four hours. The pinguins are unique. A pleasant and quiet zoo with a lot of animals. Food and drinks are not too expensine

The Wuppertal Zoo is one of the nicer zoos I've been to, in an old fashioned kind of way. Many of the cages are built in a way that there really isn't much between you and the animal, and that's pretty different from other zoos I've been to. It's a pretty large zoo, and they have a lot of really nice exhibits to look through. When comparing it to the DC zoo or the Bronx Zoo, of course it doesn't have the same amount of nice buildings and attractions, but in the most important part, the animals, it's comparable. It is one of my favorite things about Wuppertal, and I was very surprised to find such a high quality zoo in this city. It's also very convenient to get to by Schwebebahn!

Wuppertal Zoo is quite surprising. It's expansive, well maintained, well serviced and in a very central part of Wuppertal Barmen. I've been to Wuppertal many times over the years visiting family, but this was the first visit to the Zoo. It's very easy to get to, either off of the A46 or from the Schwebebahn (direction OberBarmen). The animals were active and mobile during our visit, with the exception of the Polar Bear. She was in a very small glass cage, and looked agitated. Some of the most impressive animal exhibits were the large cats - the tigers roam through the woods in the zoo, and you can get quite close to them, through the glass of course. The old gnarly granddad lion was pretty spectacular as he lazed in the sun, also very close to the glass. The large primates were quite entertaining and put on quite a show by blowing kisses and playing hide and seek.Don't forget to stop at the playground, close to the mid-point of the walk around - the slide is worth the try. Also, the rope suspension bridge is a fun way to end your visit.Glad to have finally made it to this remarkable zoo.

The zoo really takes care of its seals and has a feeding time each day that is fun to watch. The reptile area is quite stifling with the humidity and the cat cages smell badly during winter, but the outdoor areas are nice.
