Not much to see here but it's a bit of history for a famous author. Spend an hour and see how Sandburg lived.

This is both a wonderful introduction to Carl Sandberg and a highly informative repository of information about his life for those already familiar with Sandberg's writing. The video alone was worth the visit and the gift shop has an incredibly comprehensive collection of Sandberg's works for sale, too. Although there's no admission fee, donations are encouraged.

The house next door to Sandburg's birthplace has been purchased and turned into a museum, complete with a brief video about Sandburg's life, plenty of artifacts, affordable books and souvenirs available for purchase. The staff were friendly and knew their subject well. The birthplace has been restored with many furnishings that belonged to the Sandburg family, plus a few supplemental pieces from the period. It's a slightly out of the way setting, but you'll be glad you went. Best to go alone or with a small group, since the birthplace is a VERY small house.

Carl Sandburg's birthplace provides a unique lens through which to view his life and works. The museum has a nice video and lots of information that gives the visitor a more in-depth awareness of Carl Sandburg. It is worth the time and effort to see. It is very sad that the state of Illinois does not designate more funds to the upkeep of this site - it needs updates and repairs.

Loved the little three-room house. The timeline and video were very informative. I was impressed by the information provided and that the tour was quick. The location is interesting.

I had no idea this was in Galesburg and was thrilled to stop in during a recent visit. The tiny house where Carl Sandburg was born is located a bit off the road in a small neighborhood, but it's worth the stop. In addition to giving a private tour of the historic birthplace, the museum had a wonderful exhibit on his life. I'd heard of him, but had no idea about his history. The Pulitzer-Prize winner was an interesting man and the exhibit does him justice. His novels and books of poetry are available for purchase and there's a lovely garden behind the museum where his ashes are buried. Very worth visiting if you're a literature nerd like me!
