This beach is worth the drive. From the Bear Valley Visitor Center it is about 20 minutes. Of course Pt Reyes is the furthest corner of Marin County from SF. The sands here are terrific, clean, and mellow. They just go on forever. This is a walking beach for sure but you could also pitch a chair or umbrella if you wanted to. Few people. Went in early Feb on a Thursday and light traffic, half of the people were with dogs. Dogs must be on leashes - highly irritating when owners let their dogs run freely here. The surf was pounding good here on this day, the temps were mid-60s, and I took various photos near the cliff structures on the side of the sand. Seals and otters doing their thing. Highly relaxing. Not well-known but that's a good thing ha. Have a fun time.

This beach is only 10 minutes from Point Reyes Station. You can take your dog to the left of the parking area-but be mindful that they must be on leash. The rangers will issue expensive tickets. I know-I got one!

While it is a good 45 minute drive from the visitor center, once there the beach is easy to access from the parking lot. It is a long, wide, flat beach that allows dogs on leash - and picked up after. Stay away from the cliffs - both the tops and bottoms of the cliffs can be dangerous due to landslides, especially in winter when the ground gets water logged and causes regular slides. No services except restrooms, so bring your picnic and any other supplies.

Great beach for the family to walk and play on. Worth the drive. Amazing view from the beach. We enjoyed walking up and down and playing in the sand.

I started and ended my day on this beach. It was dead quiet both times I was there. Unfortunately I was not well equipped for the beach as I had my bicycle with me. In the evening when the sun was starting to set I did get my bike onto the hard packed sand. I cycled down along the beach and had some dolphins follow me, swimming in the waves along side me for quite some distance. I didn't see any seals, but somebody said to me to look out for seals.

I love Limantour so this review is biased. We live in town and Limantour is where we go for beach bonfires (get a same day permit at the Ranger Station first), picnics, hiking, dog walks and whale watching. I've seen more whales while walking along Limantour than I have any other place. The beach is gently sloped which makes for great walking and it's not as rough as North or South beach, where you have to watch closely for sneaker waves. If you have a dog, park in the south lot and dog are welcome (on leash). Be advised that the rangers often watch the beach with binoculars and you won't see them until it's too late.If you're a local you already know Limantour, if you are visiting grab sandwiches at Perry's Deli and then come and enjoy the beach.

What a beautiful beach. We went on a Monday in mid-September. The place was practically deserted despite the beautiful weather. While walking down and back (maybe three miles each direction) we only encountered about 10 other people. Amazing that this beautiful stretch of long beach is so unused. I’m glad a friend brought me there. It’s a place I’ll go back to on a nice warm sunny non-weekend day.

I brought my seven year old daughter with her pony to the trails. We parked by the hostel. There was plenty of room to park a trailer and the trails were great. I will be back for sure!

This place is honestly amazing. The ocean bluffs are simply spectacular and we saw 4 seals!. It's a great place to fly kites too

I love this beach. I grew up with this beach. We go there a few times a year. It has hiking trails, a large parking area and plenty of places to sit on the beach. It never feels crowded. It's dog friendly and great for taking a long walk down the beach. The water is cold, wading is enough. The wind picks up in the afternoon. We always take a picnic lunch. The drive out to the beach is beautiful and relaxing.

The beach is clean and while it is windy, it is so much more protected compared to the other beaches. We were able to obtain a fire permit and had a bon fire at night which was absolutely wonderful!

Limantour Beach is a beautiful spot. Any walkers dream should be to walk along this beach and the trails that adjoin it. The day we went, it was 90 degrees which is highly unusual. Normally, it is at least 15 degrees or more cooler with potential overcast, fog, and wind. This is a spot for some quick wading provided the water is calm. Never turn your back on the ocean and always supervise your children here.

The instant I stepped onto this beach the wind swept me up! It was wonderful. The wind was strong and the sand was hot! It was quite chilly, way more chilly than inland, but laying on the sand warmed you up quickly. We came to spot a whale but unfortunately we didn't see any that day. There are lots of crab parts all over the beach, which make for good photo opportunities. Fabulous time!

We had a drive north of San Francisco to enjoy fresh oysters. On the way back we drove to Limantour beach, parked our car and walked for 10 minutes to the beach. The scenery is absolute fabulous! The wind, the smell and the sound from the ocean. In case you're in the area, make the drive there to enjoy & relax for some time.
