The bog and boardwalk are beautiful year around. A great place to stop on one's way to work or home and just have a few moments of serenity in a natural setting. It so close to everything that you can go for hours or just a few minutes.

Sarracenia

This was a beautiful place and we we very lucky to visit during a record high temperature day. The day was absolutely beautiful and many trees had already turned so we enjoyed and amazing display of reds and yellows mixed in with the greens. It was crowded yet we still enjoyed the walk. The boardwalk goes through different habitats of a peat bog and there are excellent plaques with beautiful color illustrations of both plants and animals as well as a wealth of information about the type of habitat you can see. If you read these plaques you can get a fairly good idea of what peat bogs are, the different habitats and the kind of fauna and flora you can see.We spotted the pitcher plant Sarracenia purpurea in both the shady areas and in the more open area of the bog. They were green in the shady area and very red in the open more sunny areas of the bog.I beautiful area well worth detouring for. I would visit again and try some of the other trails as well.

Ideal to get close to nature in a typical Maine topography setting. Nothing to improve! Sorry we missed the special day coming up, because the first-hand explanations are better than any explanatory boards.

This is a great walking path where you're able to see the Orono Bog. They have a couple of rest areas with benches and scenic viewing areas. Typically lots of wildlife and there are informative signs around describing the various plant and animal life. I haven't been since they renovated the boards, but I've heard it's even nicer now! A must see in the Orono area.

Saw deer, nice birch trees, with the greenery, along the river. Bring bug spray, lots of mosquitoes & we forgot our spray.

Beautiful place for a quiet walk. The loop is about one mile around with plenty of benches and informational signs throughout. It has a wide enough area for wheelchairs and there is one available in the cabin---just ask the volunteer docent there if you need to borrow it. I enjoy going out there and seeing how much the flora change from one week to the next. Maintained by hardworking volunteers.

If you're looking for a quick, low-impact way to get your family outside for a bit, this would be a great option for you! Its not too long of a walk. There's a places stop for a rest along the way, and an outhouse for a bathroom break, The views are beautiful. The trail signs are really well marked and informative. You could even make it with a stroller, if need be. (I have!) Just remember to bring some water and a camera!

The boardwalk features information posts at intervals along the loop. One introduced a small rodent (red-backed vole?), photo and description. As if on cue, the little guy appeared! Every trip is like going back in time.

This is the most relaxing walking area around. People in this town are trustworthy, too! I dropped my car keys on the ground in the woods and found them sitting in the front seat of the car when we returned to the parking area. Nowhere but Orono, Maine!

Wonderfully interesting experience. A one-mile loop on an elevated boardwalk through a fascinating bog environment. Closed in winter, but a must-see during the other three seasons. In spring the bog explodes with an almost tropical intensity of green as leaves unfurl for the summer ahead and wildflowers make their annual debut. Autumn with its raging colors is just one more exclamation point.

The 3 mile walk along the board walk was very beautiful with the changing of the leaves. I had so much fun.

Wonderful bog with all the plant specialties of an acidic peat environment. Interpretive signs provide information for this self-guided walk. I imagine a June visit would be absolutely incredible with blooms galore, but a mid-August visit offered treasures like Bladderwort and White Fringed Orchid in bloom, and a buffet of berries. Birds were still busy, although quieter than they would be earlier in the season, and a Merlin entertained overhead harassing a juvenile Cooper's Hawk. A Canada Warbler was still singing, and a Blue-headed Vireo posed nicely for photos. If you are interested in botany, you'll want to spend some time here taking in all the goodies, and should set aside a minimum of 2 hours, but if you are just going for a walk through a different habitat, you can walk the boardwalk in an hour.

I have walked at the Bog with my 98 yr. old aunt and with young children in all seasons! I have completed 5 oil paintings of the rare plants and foliage there. This is a must see destination!

Close to Bangor Mall but feels a million miles away from the hustle and bustle. Once you get out of the wooded area and enter the open bog the views are just stunning. Rare bog plants and birds are at home in the bog and often can be seen from the walk.

There were so many Lupines and Lady Slippers this time of year it was amazing. The only thing we found was the trails could have been marked a bit better. There are a couple of parking lots, we had to walk a bit further to find the one we parked in. Lots of people were visiting the Bog Walk and using the trails.
