Cretans still dislike Germans (though they still like their tourist Euros). Find out why (hint: the Germans treated the natives like swine, and wantonly killed civilians, unlike the Italians who occupied the eastern half of Crete during WWII) by seeing the interesting WWII invasion of Crete exhibit.

Lots of ship models and sea shells. Depressing display about the Nazi invasion of Crete in 1941. Good of its kind, but horrifying.

Good little museum, lots to look at and read about, and has lots of old memorabilia. The WWII stuff is particularly intersting. Gets very warm in there though, but then it is Crete :-)

Loved our visit. So much to see and especially enjoyed the 2nd world war stuff including the mock up ship bridge. A vast collection of material to view. We spent almost two hours and just scraped the surface.Lots of pictures, boat models, uniforms etc. Great for youngsters wishing to learn about the history of the sea.

The recreated Minoan ship and other historical ship were very interesting but don't miss the wide ranging history of Greece and Crete including an extensive collection about the Battle of Crete (WW2) in the other section of the museum at the other end of the harbour

This is a small interesting museum on two floors. It has many interesting models and details of the battle of Crete . Clearly if you are not interested in maritime matters then there is little point in going. Whilst I was in the area i visited both the British and commonwealth war cemetery and the German cemetery at Maleme.

This contains lots of model boats and model recreations of ancient sea battles. Upstairs is information about the German occupation of Crete, including a little book with details of various Australian soldiers stationed there and a wedding dress made from German parachute silk. If you get a combined ticket you can also go and see the Phoenican boat across the harbour.

The museum is not that big while you expect something bigger while you encounter it from the outside. The visiting times are awful and its a bit expensive too but still there many nice things to see in there.

A little boring but if you are interested in boats and sailing it will be more interesting. We went in purely to take shelter from the rain and paid the minimal entrance fee.

Visited this place on a trip from platanias . well worth the entrance fee . the back section was open so you can walk round the grounds . able to get fantastic photos . even if that part is shut you can still visit the inside loads to see . 3euros entry fee but worth it . the outside section closes at 2 pm .

So well done, interesting; watch the movie on the history - amazingly well done and really gives an insight into Crete and its turmoil. Displays so professionally done and quite fascinating. Also its location close to everything made it easy to drop in on our way back from the beach on our way to a meal.

A very good museum full of Cretan history. This museum has two branches: The one in the west edge of the port has a good selection of war ship models and many photos, giving a clear picture of the rich naval history of Greece (my husband loved it!!). They have dedicated a big part to 2nd W.W, so interesting and human!!At the other part of the Museum, this at the west edge of the port (giving a little more for the ticket you have access to both) there is a marvelous "discovery". This part is in an old Venetian shipyard (a Neorion) and here they have constructed a replica of an ancient ship of 1500 B.C!! Lovely!!There are also many interesting models of Greek ships... If you like such things, you can spend here many hours, admiring our rich history...
